It is a 1959/60/61 Ambassador Mark 1. Compare your chassis number's with the following reference pictures:

A 1959 Mark - I :

This one is off a 'Sixties Mark-II.

When compared to the first pic- your chassis plate has a similar shade. The number comparisions are:

Specimen 1- Frame- 111/21246. Yours is: 23999. The engine of the specimen was numbered: 21668, and yours is: 24099.

Thus, it is concluded that it is an Ambassador Mark-I.

On a side note, did she look like this: This very original Amby OHV surfaced in Hyderabad.

An excellent reference image for the ultra rare OHV badge, now seldom (if at all) seen:

Or, Anurag, did she look something like this: A 1970-72 ish Ambassador MK-II, registered in Bombay, as is evident by the MRG registration:

A few pictures will help. The pic that you've posted is of a Amby Mark-II pretending to be a Mark - III. Notice the distinctive bumpers! The FIAT 1100 Delight at home also tries to pretend being a Padmini, and I let her remain so.

Registration in your car is of AP- in all probability, Hyderabad.

A few examples of similar registrations:

AIA 8721, well preserved, reregistered 1954/55 FIAT Millecento, Hyderabad: Name: AIA 8721.jpg

Size: 162.1 KB

AIB 292, Jaguar, left Hyderabad a long back! -

Name: aib 292.jpg
Views: 1237
Size: 170.6 KB

On a similar note: An EPIC (a real MUST READ!) restoration of an AIA registered FIAT, which was saved by @Stanher, and came to Bombay, owned by a certain BHPian: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/post-w...illicento.html (Another Fiat - The Restoration of a 1956 Millicento)

What are the differences between the Mark II and Mark 3 bumpers?

The car however- appears to be a Mark-II, and the chassis numbers compareable to a Mark-I. Registration is from somewhere in modern day Orissa.

I *think* that this car was originally a Mark-I, "converted" into a Mark-II. Either that, or my entire chassis diagnosis is wrong. But- It should be a Mark-I, owing to similarity in the chassis plates and numbers.

Thanks for sharing - the car would have been almost new when this picture was taken in that case. She is a Mark II.

If you find any more pictures (even of other cars), do share here

Spotted this Mark II today evening. The car was stuffed; easily 7-8 people in it!

This is a family heirloom - my father's 1962 Ambassador Mark II which, during the 1980s got modified into a Mark II with some Mark III and Mark IV accessories. I am in the process of restoring the accessories back to the original Mark II equipment. It still has the original OHV engine, original body, gearbox and a number of the accessories. I hope to create a separate restoration thread, share the work so far and also solicit advice in the process.

Is it a Mark II?. Restoring this to its original looks is really needed so that, all those non standard stuff would be out of her.

Not sure of the exact year but IIRC it was between 1970-1973 model. Can anyone decode the Guarantee plate to get the year?
This appears to be of early Ambassadors and not from the early 70s.
Our 1970 June Amby's engine number was OEH 01351 and this one is mere OE.

Dad said it was bought in between 1962 and 1963 though dad was 2 years old then.

Looking at your car # and engine #, it seems slightly older than my father's late 1962 Mark II. It is probably an early 1962 car.

It is a 1962 registered Mark II. Growing up in the 80s, I remember the original Mark II front grill and many of the accessories like the combination ignition switch, the Smith MPH speedometers etc all of which got replaced during that time.

I am doing a full restoration to Mark II. Front grill, parking lights, decals, original Smith meters, ivory gear knob, original tail lights, number place light, original steering with the indicator switch, original headlight rims, dome light and everything else I could find missing. I am also getting it repainted to one of the original colors - dove grey.
