FCB pays it's Tribute to Bharat Ratna Bhimsen Joshi. RIP.

Joshiji was a Fond of cars and guess what his favorite was a FIAT car!

Quote:
He drove all the way to Lahore: The story of Panditji’s other passion

Gitesh Shelke and Anurag Bende bmfeedback@indiatimes.com
IN PUNE

Driving and caring for his cars, especially his Mercedes, was a passion with Pandit Bhimsen Joshi who once drove to Lahore along with a friend, a city garage owner, to see an ailing singer.
“Panditji was an old customer at our garage,” says Uma Bhosale, the owner of Chandrakant Service Station on Tilak Road in Pune. Joshi was her father Chandrakant’s friend. “My brother was fond of key chains and my father used to like perfumes. My hobby is collecting stamps. Panditji knew all this and used to bring key chains for my brother and perfumes for my father without fail whenever he visited any foreign country,” she recalls. Then she revealed the interesting part: “Panditji, whom we used to call anna, used to receive letters from many countries. The address on every envelope was ‘Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, India’. That’s all. He used to hand over these envelopes to me for my stamp collection.”
He used to visit their garage for maintenance and servicing his vehicles. “Once he was in Germany from where he called up my father and asked what spare parts were needed for his car,” she recalls. Panditji had a sharp memory. He gathered and remembered information about various automobiles. “He was wellacquainted with engine parts,” she says. “Once, after a discussion with my dad, he took him to Lahore to meet an ailing classical singer. He drove himself. Nobody stopped them at the Indo-Pak border.”
He had not visited the garage in the last eight years. Her employees visit his bungalow to repair his car.
‘HE’D WATCH US REPAIR CARS’
Manohar Yande, 75, is a mechanic who has nothing to do with Indian classical music, but was closely associated with the legendary vocalist. He used to repair all the cars that Panditji owned from the year 1955.
“Bhimsen anna always wanted me to repair his car. He would sit in our garage watching me work,” Yande recalls. Yande Auto Works is situated on an open plot opposite Bhave High School in Sadashiv Peth.
Yande said, “My father started this garage in 1948. I joined him in 1955. Since then, I have seen Bhimsenji visit our garage several times. He was famous as a singer, but he never showed any attitude. He would speak with all the garage workers, would have tea with us. He used to take good care of his vehicles. His favourite car was an old model of Fiat. Sitting in our garage, he had learnt some techniques of repairing cars and would tinker with his vehicles.”

Thanks for Quoting from Bangalore Mirror, Sujith. RIP Joshiji.

I always felt that we should have a FCB Meet as Tribute, dedicated to Late Walchand Hirachandji who is the Founder of PAL and a very great Industrialist.

Nice photosession karthikX2, boeuff and sujith !!!
Keep it up!!! All old & new FIATs are looking great.
Each FIAT in FCB is a masterpiece. 1st FIAT logo embossed on 'peetal' is just stunning. It looks like an original one restored to prestine condition.
Three cheers for all 'Golden' FIAT clubs. Hip Hip Hurray!!!!

Superb pics. Its nice to see the new gen. fiats complementing the classics. Really liked the Surf Blue Padmini. I think its the early model one, the successor of President. Is it on original color ?
BTW how many new members were introduced in the meet. It feels great that the Fiat family is growing day by day. I think this may be one of the reason for the deficiency of fiats being scrapped in gujri.

Is the spelling on the brass badge the right one? (Fabberica Italiana Di Avtomobili Torin)
The correct one has to be Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino. Or in italian is it that way andis it that I am wrong.
