Does anyone have a clear image of what the rear badge should look like on the Hindustan 10? This is the only image I have, and bear in mind I am not sure if this is the original badge.

Karl, if you have observed the Morris 8's (1938 - 48), these had a badge on the rear boot with a round reflector of red colour.

The Hindustan 10's too, had such a badge, also with a round, red reflector.

The Heritage Transportation Museum in Gurgaon shared these superb period advertisements of the Hindsustan 10. Note the constant nationalist references

"Its patriotic to own and drive a Hindustan"

"India's own Automobile"

"First car exclusively designed for Indian conditions" (though that's a bit of a stretch)

It's also target to the forces in one ad

While I always thought the car was introduced in 1947, I can see some dates of 1946 and even late 1945.

Last week I saw a very original 1948 Hindustan 10 belonging to an acquaintance. They have owned it from the 1950s itself, and remains largely unmolested and untouched.

I am sharing some detailed pictures as reference - there can't be too many more around in such original unrestored condition.

The car was repainted many years back to blue, previously in some shade of brown I was told. The front grille unfortunately seems to be altered - and also cut abruptly at the bottom.
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-01.jpg

The elusive bootlid badge missing here too. Even though the car been parked in the open and not moved in 20 years, it remains in fairly good shape.
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-02.jpg

The dash seems to retain all original fittings, with additional switches added.
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-03.jpg

Note the bakelite frame surrounds - very brittle (this already damaged) and I am told impossible to get.
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-04.jpg

The original headlight lenses are intact.
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-05.jpg

The original catalogue describes 'Supplementary equipment of sliding head saloon" to include "window louvres to front doors" - they are plastic/acrylic, and have aged well.
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-06.jpg

The original pedal rubbers with "H" imprint are intact. I think we have seen these on Baby Hindustans as well.
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-07.jpg

The original XPAG engine, I am told shared with MG TCs save for the manifold.
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-08.jpg

Remnants of the original brown leather, under remnants of cool period seat covers, under remnants of newer covers
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-09.jpg

The 'Sliding Head Saloon' cost a princely 150 rupees more than the Fixed Head Saloon - Rs. 7,850 versus Rs. 7,700. Note the roof light - identical to the later Hindustan 14 unit - probably a later fitting?
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-10.jpg

Also note the roof light switch - again common to Hindustan 14?
The Endangered Hindustan 10 is Becoming Very Rare-11.jpg

The original dealer badge still fitted to the dash. Incidentally J Williams were selling Hindustans till just a few years back. I think till a year back they were still operational selling Mitsubishi.

The commission plate fixed to the bulkhead.

Thanks Anjanda for correcting my misconception. The first car I owned was a Hindustan 14, and I have had a feeling that Baby Hindustan and the Hindustan 10 were the same beauties. Obviously the H10 predates the Baby Hindustan.

A Hindustan 10 being used for the first Lok Sabha elections in Delhi in January 1952. The candidate is Mr Durga Das.
Until this point, the Indian Constituent Assembly had served as an interim legislature.

And this website gives a wrong information that says HM began production of India's first car in the year 1949 at Port Okha.

https://www.drivespark.com/off-beat/...ia-010718.html

The production (assembly of SKD kits) of the Hindustan 10 began in 1945, while the HM plant at Okha was set up in 1942. By 1949, the first model of the Morris Oxford MO series, badged here as the Hindustan 14 was launched by HM.

This petrol tank of a Hindustan 10 has just been refurbished - note the ornate brass ID plate fitted - stating Morris Motors Radiators Branch, and 2 serial numbers.
