Yesterday got the engine bay painted

We have sprayed the first coat of White all over the car.

Later masking will be done and red sprayed to achieve the half saree design.

Again the White sprayed overall, only due to achieve the depth of red.

OK pavan, so do I understand that the body is going to be entirely sprayed in red for the final coat, and then the white only in the middle?

PS: @ mentioning the "half-saree design!" You're a good sishya!

Weather playing a perfect spoilsport in finishing this car,

We are too close to finish spraying the final White coat, one good hour is sufficient, but the rain gods have no mercy on me.

Some updates

Goog job, pavan! BTW, do get the triangular reflectors fitted inside the fins (circled) off before the paint- they are very difficult to get now (except abroad of course), also the tail-lamp holders. The guys must be careful handling these, as the separating/mounting plates are often broken by their rough handling, as on the left side one on this car.
The reflector on the right seems broken too but still worth taking off so they dont get in the way of the paint!

Also is it the pic. or does the bonnet look like it hasnt sat properly on the right, ie. can see a crooked gap between the bonnet and door.

Also while painting, please make sure the rims are painted in ivory/off-white, which is the correct shade.

Shyam bhai, all your points taken. Thanks

I need to know which hinges suit the rear dickey door, presently dont have them.

Also, the seats have gone for upholstery, We found some old pattern inside, i am not able to tell weather this is original , Shyam Bhai, your help needed here, also please put up some pics on the original pattern.

I am doing the upholstery in Red,
Roof will be white,
Doorpads will be Red
Dashboard will be Black
Steering will be white
Handbrake lever will be white
Rims will be off-white

And luckily today the weather god was kind enough to shed some much required Hot Sun.

We painted the Final White on the car, tomorrow, we will be masking the white portion and completing the Red.

Hinges are difficult to find here- this is what they look like:

The seats are not in the original pattern- this is supposed to be the correct pattern for an early Herald:

1960 Triumph Herald 948 cc on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

1960 948 Herald Coupe on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

'hope these help.

Um, by roof, do you mean the headlining being white??

Also steering wheel is supposed to be GREY, the entire steering column in fact, including the indicator switches.

Also as I understand the normal way of painting this type of colour combo would be full Red first, then the white in the middle, masking the red. I could have been wrong.

Note: The entire car, barring the boot/bonnet top and middle portion, is supposed to be painted red btw. Including the interior:

OMG!!!! This I didnt expect!!

I recognise this car I think, was posted by 'hotstuff' here some time ago:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/1135236-post675.html

It has to be the same car! But, because he'd posted only side pcis. of it, I couldnt make out that this is actually a rare, early ('61-62) mk1 Herald!!!

Even the number explains it!!

Gawd, his prediction has come true, the car is indeed becoming a qualifier for 'rust in pieces' thread!!!

Pavan, how could you afford to tell me so casually about this 'susprise' you had in store for me?!!!

Please pretty PLEASE help me out with this- do find out the owner and help rescue this car!! It's still quite complete and worth salvaging!! Quick, before it falls prey to the gujiri guys/vandals!! Tehy've already knocked off the hubcaps!!
We HAVE to make an effort to save this car!

If only there was a SCB (Standard Club Bangalore, Not Standard Chartered Bank!) over there just like FCB, with 4 'idiots' like funkykar, arun, sujith, karthikMB..........:sigh:!!

PS: Oh, and congrats on acquiring the parts you mention! Sorry for the digression here, maybe we could move your above post to the standard cars thread?

The paint job is coming out excellent The depth in Red that i required is achieved. yaaay...!

Since the sun was up and we had a good hot day,We did the first covering coats today.

Leave it to dry overnight and tomorrow morning the final coats of actual RED will be sprayed.

Comments / compliments please.

looking good! The red sure looks brilliant!

'cant wait to see the actual finish!

BTW, why have the bumpers been covered up though? They are supposed to be painted red too!
Also not to forget, the interiors (insides of doors etc) too.

Thank you Shyam

The catch is there. The Bumpers will be in white

A very unique combo i've planned. But yet period.

24 hrs to see the final finish. Keep watching this space.........!

As promised, here are the updates.

Now with this, we come to the last and the most difficult part of restoration.

Putting the Jig-saw puzzle back together.

Lets see how it goes from here.

Pavan, How are you planning to do up the floor's Rust proofing? Are you going the 3M way, or the less expensive 'pitch, putty' (not sure about the local name) way. It is like melted thar and prevents rust and cabin noise in a good way.
