| BANNED | FIATians: Fiat 1100 / Premier Padmini parts are fast becoming scarce. Thanks to Mumbai taxis that some parts are easily available. But as these taxis will be banned soon, we might not get even the few parts that are available now. The quality of parts too are slowly going bad to very bad! During Mr. Behram's recent visit to Bangalore we had a discussion with him about the parts that we need to stock up for future. He had requested us to start a thread so that he too can give his comments. Fiat Gurus: -- Can any of the list out the MECHANICAL PARTS that are still available NEW in market. Please mention the exact part name and the MAKE of these parts. -- List of USED parts that we need to to collect and stock from the SCRAPYARD. -- Cosmetic parts like Lights, body pattis, door rubber beadings etc.. -- Parts of other cars that can be fit to FIATs with minimum alterations like Mikuni carburretor etc... Hope this THREAD will help our Fiats to Stay healthy longer. ![]() |

| Good thought by you people. I even asked this question on the technical info thread as to which parts to stock. Will find answers here. I think cosmetics are becoming scarce and one should stock them in such a way that there should be no scarcity of it even after 15 yrs. Buy 3 units of the same part. Use one (if required) currently, use the second one as a replacement and stock the third one for future. Just my view of thinking. I mentioned cosmetic parts as i see many old cars carrying the fittings of some other car model which utterly looks crap. The looks of the car are ruined. Can somebody throw some light on whether to stock the delight bumpers for a sum of Rs.600-800. I am getting a pair of these in scrapyard. They are not the ones which require the extra bolt on rear side fenders. They are same as the hillram's delight. Last edited by samsag12 : 28th February 2010 at 21:40. |

| Senior - BHPian | I agree to what Arun, Samsag says and I feel need to stock what ever you find in the marked (New or Old) you never know what could be handy, the important ones are the cosmetics which cannot be acuired in the later years. |

| Senior - BHPian | Here are some of the things I can think of. 1) Side beadings and window beadings. 2) Couple of grills 3) A set of lights, indicators and tail lamps would be good. 4) A few glass machines 5) Door and window handles 6) A couple of additional carburators 7) Points and Condensor, and may be a full distributer 8) Cables (speedo, clutch, hand brake and others) 9) Accelerator pins 10) Hose pipes, specifically if yours is a S1 11) Clutch plate and pressure plate 12) Steering box 13) Horn button and indicator lights contact switch unit 14) Wheel caps 15) Float My perception of some points may be incorrect. Feel free to correct me. If I think of anything else, I will post it later |

| Not to forget the TIMING Chain. Its very difficult to get one nowdays as they have become extinct. I am hunting for one for the past few days and it is becoming nearly impossible to find a new one. On a lighter note, why not buy an old fiat and disassemble it fully to obtain some parts. This way one can get some parts which we even didn't had thought of and would be fun dismantling the car. Of course rubber and wear and tear parts will still have to be procured but mechanical parts can be obtained from the old car. ![]() |

| Arun bhai why not mention some indicative price also for the parts. This will help everybody to stock the parts which they can afford as and when they have some money to spend. I wonder is it good to stock the various rubber parts such as 1. Front and rear windshield rubber lining 2. Window glass beading 3. Dicky rubber lining 4. Mud flaps. 5. bumper guards 6. Door rubber gola set 7. various rubber and other metal packings of engine compartment. 8. Head gasket 9 Rocker cover gasket.etc Can these be stored for say at least 10-15 yrs and how to store them i.e. how to make them last longer apart from heat protection.
