| I think if we reduce the pressure of the compressed air the velocity of the media is reduced and then glass beads can be used to acheive the desired results without destroying the chassis. But then no ventor will be ready to do that. |

| Simply put you need to get a new chassis then. TAIF You might not see the rust very clearly but trust me its there and Pavan know too. Its gonna be a nightmare to get that chassis rust free. The first places the rust will erupt in are the welds where new metal has been grafted on Been there and done that so I speak with experience Last edited by wasif : 4th January 2011 at 22:03. |

Not sure if it is availabel in India, you guys live in India so you might know better. It does work well though and will not take away any metal from the chassis. usually items are media blasted to ensure that all surface rust / paint etc is completely removed and then dipped to seal the said item from rust. This is one of the reasons the restored cars last much longer in the west as the basic issues of reust are addressed in fitting manner. Now in India when you patch a rusted area what happens is sooner or later the rust starts up again around the welds and even the edges of the patch.

| Hi! Are you serious? This is a wonderful sentence for forwards .Topolino chassis may be thin, but they are engineered to survive. But now you have to check if you have lost any metal, then the chassis becomes weak. Thin and weak are different situations. In the very first car which we restored and was partially hands-on, we scraped down the chassis and then used a hand drill with a steel brush to clean the chassis properly. But sandblasting and dipping in a tank like galvanising would work better. BTW, how is the engine? Cheers harit |

Chemical dipping is prefered when we have delicate parts which might get damaged by the media (from blasting). How ever much also depends on the Guy doing chemical dipping, too much of dipping can also eat away the metal. Chemical dipping will go to every nook and crany of the component or part, which is a good thing. As far as I am aware that much big tank is not available in India to carry out dipping of the whole body. Chrome platers also do chemical dipping before chrome plating and many times to scrap old paint the same acid is applied by brush over the body by local painters.

Also phosphoric acid is also said to be a good agent. HCL is faster of the two. Last edited by manishalive : 5th January 2011 at 11:41.

![]() We have given it a nice 2 coats of 3M antirust coating , initially i needed the Wurth guys to do it, but they have been giving me nightmares with their timings since 3 days. 3M is a rubberised compound and coats the surface neatly .Some pics
