Continuing with OT, otherwise would lose the link.
The gent has not been identified by anyone, could his name be Tom?
Vauxhall Hurlingham's seem to be rare beasts, recently saw an ad for one and am posting. Description is interesting
Have put picture of previous post and this ad.
No idea if cars are the same.

Cheers harit

Err...Haritji,

This is the same car that was my great grandfather's, right? I don't recognize the 2 persons. Don't think they are from my family. There were 3 more cars that belonged to my great granddad which were pretty rare.

1) Isotta Fraschini-My granddad always told me that it belonged to Hollywood star Marlene Dietrich and had her initials somewhere on the car

2) Minerva-No idea what model

3) Roamer Roadster-Grill was very much like a RR (as were the grills of most Roamer's)

Regards

does anyone have any further info on these cars ? If I am not mistaken the Phantom is with the Mallya collection ???

The Rolls in the last picture looks to be a very early model, is it a Phantom 1 or a Ghost ? It doesnt have brakes on the front wheels ? Any idea where this car could be now ?
Nawab Luft-ud-Din Dowla was first owner of a 1913 Silver Ghost:
Chassis 2328, Barker Tourer Torpedo, painted Post Office Red with Black Mouldings, Red leather.

I am assuming this is the car shown.

The other car looks like a Phantom I - I will let the experts decide! I do not think this is the Mallya car though

One of these RR's was purchased used in Mumbai for Rs. 14,000 I am told along with a Supercharges Auburn for Rs. 10,000.

Both cars were brought to the VT Station and displayed onthe platform for the Nawab to view from his private railway saloon that was parked there !
The top car (open and closed) is Phantom I 93WR, a Barker cabriolet. The bottom car is an early Silver Ghost. The Nawab of Hyderabad (not sure if it was Luft-ud-Dowla) had four open Silver Ghosts: 1402, 1782 (which this car is not - I have a picture of that car), 2328 or 75NK. As this is an early car, I would think perhaps 1402 (which had the name "Jewel of Asia" and was a demonstrator car for RR in Bombay before being sold to the Nawab. It was a Barker Roi-des-Belges.

Wasif Wali-ud-Dowla's RR was 71 DC which is in a museum in Europe and the 20 HP I don't know where. I think it was mentioned somewhere in this thread.

The Ghost with Mallya would be Dawood Jung's car. Very handsome machine !!

Milton Sills did act as a British Major in a movie called Pampered Youth set in India. Can't confirm if it was shot in India, or if this photo is from that movie.

Open for comments!

This is 150JH, a very early Springfield Silver Ghost with Merrimac Pall Mall tourer body. It was Sills's personal car in California.

I think this is a Baroda car, Phantom III 3AX201 with Hooper lim body. Possibly with Manvendra today.

I think the RR to the right is 71OR, a Barker sdv, the one to the left is also a New Phantom, but it looks as if it were converted to a shooting brake or some kind of bus...

I still think the Silver Ghost shown is Chassis 2328 (Domed wings with valances, Self contained headlamps, Rudge Whitworth wheels, etc). Original owner was Nawab Luft-ud-Din Dowla

Chassis 1402 originally went to Salar Yar Jung and then to Nawab Moin-ud-Din Dowla. I believe it had a polished aluminum bonnet and detachable Vinet rims

Yes, after hearing from people in England and Park Ward in France, who know more about Silver Ghosts than I do, they also agree that this car is 2328.
