Default Pioneer/Alpine HUs with iPod control

Hi guys...I'm gonna be in the market for a new ICE rig soon, but my preferences now have been heavily influenced by the fact that I recently got a 30 GB iPod video.

Therefore, I need a HU that will support iPod control + charging seamlessly with a minimum of fuss. (searching brought me to this thread for this purpose!)

Now, I already know about the availability of the (recent) Pioneer HUs that support iPod control through the external adapter of theirs. Does anyone have experience with this setup? How is it when it comes to sound quality and ergonomics of controlling the iPod thru the HU? And finally, what can I expect to pay for such a setup (that is, HU + iPod adapter)?

Net searches got me drooling over the recent and new Alpine HUs that have seamless iPod control (using what they call a 'full speed' control adapter):

Alpine Electronics of America, Inc.
(check out any of the "Made for iPod" HUs!)

The unfortunate thing is, the two places I've been to recently in Bangalore have stopped dealing in Alpine products for some reason...soooo...

Who knows where I can get a hold of these Alpine beauties and for how much??

Thanks in advance!

I myself is using the pioneer HU and the interface is very good...I have not experienced the alpine one but the pioneer would be cheap when compared to the alpine...

the HU can be 6950 or 7950 and you will need a simple cable to connect the IPOD to the HU in both the cases.

@vejz420, I've listened to the 9856 and 9857 (in TBHPian's cars) and those are killer HUs.

Thanks for the replies, LBM and Hydrashok!

@LBM, what's the approx. cost of your Pio HU+adapter?

@Hydrashok, I'm guessing those are 2006-series HUs from Alpine...were those with the iPod control adapter? (Alpine has been making them since 2004, but the latest 'full-speed' adapter has only come out now)

None of those cables and adapters (that LBM has mentioned) are available in the market. Dont know about the HUs. The CD-IB100ii which is shown as 6,500 Rs. is an absolute rip-off. Its available for a max of $49 in the US. onsidering the current exchange rates it would be somewhere close to Rs. 2,000 Even if you get it shipped from there, it would be wayyy cheaper than 6,500. I dont know why Pioneer doesnt have any offices or authorized showrooms in India even though this is such a big market. I have ordered the CD-IB100ii from US. My friend bought it for $35... cheapest option

Default Alpine CDE-9881 Price?

I am planning to buy Alpine CDE-9881, what is the price? Is it a good HU or shall I look for 9883 or 9885?

Based on features, I am fine with 9881 except remote.

hi guys,

i would say instead of throwing your 6500 on the ipod adapter, one should buy a pio grey HU with ipod control. that will cost around as much as the adapter itself or maybe a 1000 rs more

the adapter is a rip off. what pio is doing is, they know how big india as a market is for them. why would they want to sell officially when they know their products are selling well and they dont have to take care of the warranty issues and are saving on warranty costs?? they are smart.

will finish later
cheers

Not true. I've seen the interface cables. TBhpian Wimwian got it fitted recently with his 6950IB. Costs around 900 bucks.

I agree that the adapters are overpriced tho...

I am getting the adapter shipped from US (a friend is carrying it along). Cost me USD 35. No shipping. Great deal, eh?

Ok, so let me get this straight......

The majority of Pioneer HUs out there (the ones with the MP suffix) are able to control an iPod, but require the bulky external control adapter and cables.

The ones with the IB (iPod-Bus) suffix are capable of direct control of the iPod, requiring only the interface cable.

Correct??

So now, if I'm not mistaken, I should be looking into getting an IB model with direct iPod control...within these few, which would u guys recommend??

I think I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the Pioneer tunnel! (unless u guys say otherwise)
