Default MX RCA cable and alternator whine :(

Taking the suggestion here for VFM RCA interconnects, I went ahead and bought 3 MX original RCA interconnects from the regional distributor in chennai.

Im using one Tsunami RCA cable and one MX RCA cable for the 4ch amp.
The installation is ok and the power wires to the amp are on the left side of the car while the RCAs run through the driver side of the car. After the install, the sound was good and i was happy. But, when i started the car to leave, misery of miseries, there was a whole lot of alternator noise in the music and i just couldn't stand it.

This is my experience with the MX RCA cable and I will update this if I get to diagnose the problem(defective cable maybe) and solve it.

By the way, why 3? Do you have another amp driving the sub? Even if you did, one more would have sufficed along with your Tsunami, right?

Pioneer HU na?

Nitrous anna, all you need to do is ground the RCA jacks to the HU. Will post the pic shortly.

A Simple copper wire around the rca jacks of the HU to a screw on the back of the HU will suffice.

MX cables for the win

Oye!!!!

This is a prevailing and documented error in Pioneer HU's. I think Iv read on other forums that even the high end HU suffer from this issue.

It's an easy DIY or just goto your installer and have them do it. While they are doing it keep the car running, you will know instantly when its fixed.

Basically the copper wire in the picture eliminates the "ground loop" problem which causes the whine.

What exactly do you need confirmed ? Also are your power cables/RCA's running on the same side or have they been routed on different sides?

the power cables run along the gearbox while the RCA cables run along the front passenger door. the amp is installed right below the front passenger.

I find this most amusing. I think our in house pioneer master LBM should be able to shed more light on this one. The picture here looks more horrendous than all the sonys i have seen in my life.

Hope you guys are happy after all this.
cheers

You will have to check which RCA is causing this leaky problem. As told, disconnecting each will give you the answer.

Souljah's solution is very much unavoidable in some Pio HUs.

hi,

there is a fuse in the HU which blows when one is careless with the wires. this happens when the hot pin i.e. the inner pin of the rca jack comes in contact with the ground.

the wire you see is the solution to this problem or you can get the hu checked and replace the SMD fuse or bypass it.

i have used both the methods and im still using the wire thing on my 6850 without any problem. nothing to worry about. its been quite a while im using the wire thing.

check with a different HU, if the whine goes then your HU is the culprit.

the fuse in my case was blown because of my faulty amp.

cheers

Thats strange man....I have the same HU and its working perfect...and since I was looking at an upgrade didnt even buy Tsunami or MX bought a chinese cheap RCA for the Kicker AMP (dont curse will upgrade)...but i didnt see any problem.

And I didnt run the power cables seperately either...left side has power+rca of Sub and Right has power+rcas for 4-channel amp

Where did you install?

A million dollar question. This is where we make compromises & end up spending more than we ought to.
