I would like to have babies with Julia (already have 2 with somebody else!) provided she is ready for a plastic surgery on her mouth. Yeah, It's a bit too big and awkward for my liking.

I like Pioneer for their VFM, features and infinite bling factor. But when it comes to build quality, sound and substance, nothing to take my heart away from an Alpine!
983x series were a bit bright but built like a brick. 985x series sounded better but the build quality dropped a bit. Hope the 988x series will sort out most of the irregularities and quality problems. Out of many whom I spoke to are happy with the newer ones. Will soon have an update from my side.

I'm sure she will consider your kind offer, now we have to figure out a way to get her to read your post somehow.

ICE Gurus swear by Alpine here. But Alpine's SQ is getting bad nowadays when compared to it's premium price.

So if not Alpine, what's the next option ?

Mithun, dont you think that the prices have gone down too? I heard that 988x series are doing well and we can get them for about $200, with iPod support, 3 pre outs and good colour displays along with all other features...probably it still is a better buy than Pioneer.

I was recently told by a friend that a Delhi dealer, Auto Marc aka Sanjay is selling Eclipse HU's. Prices or more details I have no idea about right now, But I believe LBM can dish out some more details.

It is a good sounding HU. And the build quality is ok too. One of my close friends and a BHPian owns it. It is a good alternative from Pioneer and Alpine. Kenwood also makes some good higher end HUs. Their lower end is not that great.

the 9856/57 had some problems with CD eject from what i was told if the internal map was not used (external amps used) this problem never surfaced.

Alpine is not THAT bad. But if you are looking for other brands that sound good you can try Clarion, Eclipse, and even a few Kenwood models.

One reason I might was not affected too much by the brightness of the 9833/5 was that I modified he crossovers of the components I used. Maybe it was becuase of this brightness that I felt the need to modify the XOs.
