new range from pioneer seem to be even more promising.
I love this brand for their car stereo's, because they are really user friendly and have taken car audio technology to new level in terms of their display.

What is current price of 4050 in Mumbai? And which shop/place Gurus on this forum recommend for picking up Grey market HU?

I am going to pick up ICE next week and a system with both USB and Aux-in at front is a good news.

Specially if that HU is in 5k range

If u want usb in front go for the 3050, its in the 5k range, but 4050 is a better HU overall.

Cost of 4050 is 5100 Rs in Grey market. And 5050 costs 6200 Rs.

Grey market models do not have USB in front. They have USB cable coming from back that can be left in glove compartment.

hey guys
i saw the new pioneer range .I thought they were alright .I saw the 4050 and the 5050 at quite a few places .The lowest price i was quoted for the 5050 is 6450 / - at alpha stores in mumbai. 4050 was for 5000 /- to 5500/- How is the stuff at alpha stores ? I was recommended their name by an installer . His reasoning was that since they receive so much stuff from all over they barely have time to set it up on display let alone tamper with the lens and other HU components .

hey guys any idea where i could get the 6050 in mumbai. Is it worth spending another 3000 on the 6050 or would the 4050 do a good enough job .The only major diff i have noticed is that the 6050 has a 7 band graphic equaliser .

Nope! 3050 is a grey market HU and it has USB in front. Its the only model to have it in front All others have a wire running from the rear. but, isn't that better, since anyway u dont need to press any button on anything on the USB drive, and it'll stay neatly enclosed in the glovebox, rather than sticking out from the centre console!!

Good to know that 3050 has USB in front.

Not sure that USB stick in glove box is better. It might get thrown around in compartment and get broken.

Depends on what you want out of your HU. I just got the 6050 because I had to have two features:
a) USB
b) A good display that would show the song name, artist and album on the same screen i.e. in 3 lines with minimal scrolling.
I often get whole albums, and am consistently looking for the song name etc. so that is why that was important.

So in this price range my choice was between the 7950 and 6050, and I went for the newer one.

As for the equalizer, don't think about it. After a couple of days of fiddling around, I decided that it was best to leave it on the Flat setting. (I believe that most Gurus prefer that as well).

So if the display doesn't matter to you, (for e.g. if you mainly play CDs, or if you don't care about ID3 tags etc.) then I highly suggest you save that 3K and use it for something better. There's plenty to spend on w.r.t. ICE.

What is the rest of your setup going to be like ? (Speakers and amp if any?)

For the Rs3000 you save you could invest more in a nice set of component speakers that will make a tangible difference instead of the 7 Band eq

Sorry if I missed it..but what car?

Hi. IMO there is a better chance of a person accidentally bumping his hand of the USB stick in the front than the USB stick breaking in the glove compt.
Also the USB wire will prevent the stick from flying around in the glove compartment.

^ditto. Front USB has only two advantages:
a) It reduces the clutter of the wire (though you can avoid this with a clever install).
b) It is handy if you change pen drives a lot.
