ok then i think i shall call up the philips company guys. there are no specs written on the box or manuals about the speaker size. ya i can make out from the talks of the dealers that they are nuts and dont know about the speaker sizes. according to them the bigger the better.

If the enclosure is a ported one. Correct. I agree with them but hey dont get all confused here. Seal the ports and reduce the volume and check out the results.

ya did that. blocked the ports and tried. but still the woofer doesnt give crisp bass. the movement of the cone of the woofer is not smooth. but i have kept the level knob amp on the minimum side. the range is from 6v to 0.3v.
i think the tray should be removed and the rear speakers be put in the sealer enclosure. the gap between the woofer and tray is very less. the air punch coming from the woofer hits the tray.

Navin, wouldn't polyfill (pillow / cushion stuffing) work too for him? He could buy a cheap pillow on the roadside and use it.

Yup. Polyfill from the pillows would do just nicely. No itching-vitching from the glass wool either.

Reliance pillows are good candidates for butchery. Well, any polyfill-wallah pillows would do I guess.

@amit, don't use cotton.

thanks hydrashok. what is the method of filling polyfill into the woofer. do u have to remove the subwoofer from the box first? or shall i pour it down through the ports? and the sub punches the air out from the ports. wont it punch out the polyfill into my car?

Arey nahin yaar, you have to put it in a cloth bag and put it inside, unless it is in a felt roll form.

You can definitely pour it through the ports, but then it will create some nice theatrical effects. You can then invite your GF for a 'romp in the snow'

hello gurus,
first of all thanks for ur valuable guidance. now with all the above stuffs i landed up in changing my HU to pioneer 5050, JBL GTO927 at rears and a sony 2 channel amp for powering the philips subwoofer.
the old dynamo amp i am using to power the rear jbl speakers.

is this correct now. though i am very new to the settings and menu , the quality has increased drastically. any more stuffs needed??

I use rubber gloves but polyfill does nicely too. cottom will only filter the midrange.

Youd have to do this. Normally damping is added before the box is laminated/veneered etc.. and normally one woulduse a staple gun to staple sheets of damping to the walls but I guess your box is already finished.

I've never tried this but it seems like a good idea.
flatten the pillow and ensure that that the cover is acoustically transparent.

My methods are more rigourous becuase I expect more.
1. staple damping to walls
2. cover stapled damping with loose damping
3. staple damping to bracing in inside box so that the damping hangs this hanging damping converts the kinteic energy in the box to potential ennergy and heat.

yes sir my box is already done and in use. now i have to open the woofer and put there stuffs inside through the 12" cut made for the woofer.
i didnt get ur point, using sheets of damping. what have u used in ur box for damping?
