| Is your HU supposed to handle playlists? If so, it will be mentioned in the manual - user 'usable' features implemented in firmware always are, since they are selling points (no reason why it will be an 'undocumented feature' as we expect with Windoze software). If not, it will skip such files. Worth a try, though - yes, remove the drive reference "x:" but keep the initial "\".

| you can try Unix style slashes as well. Like /music/metallica/abc.mp3 Or music/metallica/abc.mp3 Rationale is, HU might be running some embedded Unix since thats free and its easy to slap a GUI on top of it. |

| Yes it should be changed to \music\metallica\ and the playlist should be in root folder of the pendrive.

| ok, abhibh, will give it a try as soon as I get a new pen drive. Since you are saying this with confidence, I suppose you must have tried this before? Could you elaborate on which HU you use, and how you setup the playlist?

| Is there an issue as far as Read speeds go for using pen drives with HUs? (I have a pioneer HU). Basically what I am asking is that is the bottleneck in the read speeds from the side of the HU or the pen drive? (That is to say, that if HUs have a c certain maximum speed which is less than the average read speeds of pen drives, then the latter should not matter.) Am looking at getting a 8GB drive, and looking between Transcend and Corsair, the latter being significantly faster, but more expensive as well.

| hey vebmetal please do report if and when you are able to get a playlist to play. I am eagerly awaiting this and my choice of a HU depends on your result. I really do want to play a playlist. A HU with the ability to play from from USB drive through playlist is one hell of a combo.

| BHPian | Try Toshiba costliest one but value for money very fast, but Transend is also good and the time difference you wont come to know also in day to day life.

| 8GB will take 10 - 20 secs to read depending upon the amount it is filled. And keep in mind that pen drive is in FAT32/16 format and not NTFS.

| The poineer website states the 5050,4050 etc to be Hi-speed capable, which is compatible with USB2.0. If what they claim is true then the USB should not be the bottleneck. I guess the HU will not require much speed to play songs smoothly. However, an 8GB drive might require more time to access and load all the file/directory structure. Is there any limit on the USB drive size mentioned anywhere in the manual?
