^ Deralte, with that line of thinking, ipods and DAPs would never have been invented. Walkmans would have done the trick. Your criticism would be appropriate iff I was one single weirdo that doesn't like some feature that 99% of people like. But in this case it is exactly the opposite. I am criticizing Pioneer for messing up a feature which is there all across the board on all sorts of hardware and software based mp3 players.

Secondly, I also come from exactly where you are coming from. It's about listening to the music. And this feature really hampers my listening experience. If for example ithe HU is playing a Metallica track, and I hit Next (with Random On) I want it to go to a non-Metallica track, and not the next Metallica track!!

Why is it hard to understand that to go to the next sequential track when Random is on is:
  1. contradictory
  2. counter-productive
  3. contrary to market standards
Why is it hard to understand this? I don't care for the technological reasons (ROM etc.) If 99% of players can implement this, I don't see why Pioneer cannot.

And let's stop eluding, Deralte. Name one mainstream commercially available mp3 player that does what I contend Pioneer HUs do stupidly, i.e. go to the next sequential track when you hit next while Random/Shuffle is on. I'll name a few that don't - Apple iPods, Creative Zens, inexpensive flash based players (e.g. Transcend), Microsoft Zune. Tried and Tested. You just name one.

I agree with you vebmetal. The feature is so intuitive in todays mp3 player world and I wonder how Pioneer guys have missed it.
I feel another feature or rather product they (or for that matter even others) have missed is the mp3 cd changer.

Used JVC, Sony and even friends kenwood and when u press the nex button it will go to next random song. All these players have the folllowing randomization options:

1. RND FLD - Will play random files within 1 folder
2. RND DSC - Will play random files from the whole disc no matter it has 30 folders.

^ And that is what I would have expected from Pioneer!! My mistake in assuming something so basic would be there.

But do confirm whether this exists when playing mp3s off a USB pendrive as well.

In Sony and JVC it is working. Dunno about kenwood as the player is only CD MP3/WMA/AAC.

But i will check it again within a day or 2.

Cool Kenwood 4036U

Guys

today I happened to check this out. I used an 80gb iPod which has over 30gb of MP3 and WMA music in over 100 folders. I used the standard USB iPod cable.

The HU was able to detect and start playing the first track within 10 sec. I went through folders upto 140 something folders. I tried different bitrates in MP3 and also tried WMA VBR Q98 files. All played without any issues.

I also tried their random play feature. It lets you do a "FLDR RDM" folder random play where it basically shuffles within a folder. Then there is also a disc random play which does the same but inter-folder.

Quite nice for a 4.5k HU.

Yes. I guess I should have been more explicit.

Besides, it sounds fabulous.
