vebmetal got 6050 still waiting for his humble reply / PM on this issue.

AFAIK 7950 can do more then 6050 regarding VBR and M3U playlist!

Well, I did notice today that some of the tracks that were playing on my HU were "VBR" as displayed by the HU itself. So it does support VBR. But as LBM said, perhaps it is a little finicky about some of them, and is more 'comfortable' with constant bitrates.

As for the 7950, according to the manuals it does support .m3u playlists, which surprisingly they did not endow the 6050 with. I don't know what rationale they have for this, but lately I have formed a very unfavourable impression of Pioneer engineers. Is there anything else that the 7950 can do more than the 6050?

No you're not, you are quite a powerhouse of information, Mr. WCI!!! Quite humbly I must accept that I am not above getting carried away ending up being the reason for the parallel tracks. Don't be defensive, you have a very good thinking process.

Quite a pointer to a "7050" in the line somewhere? Possibly to ultimately replace 7950 - motorized front plate and all? Best way to build up on 7950 success and get a costlier successor in place. Most consumer electronics manufacturers follow that path.

AFAIK the 6050 is the successor to the 7950. It has a motorized front plate, as well as the same display. In fact most features (if not all) are the same.

That's what we speculate; maybe it is not!

All the more reason (apart from the model prefix 6xxx and 7xxx) that I think there is a "7050" lurking there somewhere with something more! If it does, consumers will benefit, even if at a slightly higher price and slightly later.

Pioneer does not have a 7050UB as per their 2008 catalogue. So maybe next year. But as of now, 6050 is their top of the line for budget HUs.

Looks like the 6050 except for the metal panel behind the joystick. What's the difference otherwise?

Update: Was able to fix a single mp3 that was not playing using this program: Mp3 Repair Tool. That file now works perfectly.

Unfortunately it hasn't worked for two other albums I tried it on.

The annoying part is that it's only the Pioneer HU that doesn't read these mp3s. Everything else I have thrown them at performs brilliantly. (Everything else = 3 different mp3 programs on the computer, Creative Zen, Microsoft Zune).

Oh well, another reason for me to hate Pioneer! (Like I needed it)

I don't think Pioneers (or for that matter most major brands) support lossless formats.
