From some other forums i've heard that Premier line from pioneer had the following differences in 2005

1. Extended Warranty
2. Better finish (?!?)
3. Higher Preout voltage
4. Pro mode : (high/mid/sub instead of front/rear/sub)

1. Extended Warranty - Yes
2. Better Finish - No
3. Higher Preamp Voltage - Need to test, wont take it at face value
4. Pro Mode - Yes for USA. No for us. Example: The 8650 sold here was always capable of 3way Pro mode. In the US, they TAKE AWAY some features and then GIVE THEM BACK under the Premier banner. Kinda like our polititians, take away water, electricity and basic necessities and then promise to give them back...

Exactly Gunbir, I kept looking around for this "PRO MODE" in my 8650 when i bought it only to find out later that it was just a gimmick for the yankees.

There is a toggle switch on the HU for switching between Pro Mode (NW) & Standard Mode (STD). Pro mode is for running the system active, 2way Front + Subwoofer. Pioneer 8650 has it. You need 4 ch amp , 2ch for tweeters and 2ch for midbass and Mono for subwoofer or a single 5ch amplifier will also do.

Just be careful with levels and crossover points when running your system active otherwise you can blow your tweeters.

Autophile : i couldn't find a toggle switch the settings that show up are

Front-HPF (cut off 12db/6db) and (Levels)
Rear-HPF (cut of 18/12/6db) and (levels)
Sub - (on/off) cut off and levels

i looked around for some sorta switching to pro mode but couldn't find. i'm using a 4 ch amp for tweeters and rear coaxs and i have a mono amp for the sub. Front speakers are 4" and are powered by the HU itself. No complains with the sound, but i couldn't find the pro-mode. Am i already in the pro-mode ? or there is more ?

If you are using coaxials there is no point in going for Pro mode. Its a waste. You need to have good quality component speakers to enjoy the Active system/

So its better stick to standard mode.

In Pro Mode you cannot have rear speakers and there is no fader option.

In the pro mode you can only use 2-Way component speakers in the front without the passive crossover (Tweeters - High & Midbass - Mid) & Subwoofer - Low at the back.

So here it goes

-----> High RCA -----> 2ch Amp -----> Front Tweeters
HU -----> Mid RCA ------> 2ch Amp -----> Front Midbass
-----> Low RCA -----> Mono Amp -----> Subwoofer

The switch between the Pro & NW mode cannot be done from the Menu.

Only if you plan to have above setup then you have to take the head unit out and look for NW - STD switch on the side or under the HU.

KB, I just heard a P80RS installed in, well.. ironically a RS, Skoda that is.

Not bad for the money, although I must say the guy who bought it here got a bit ripped off compared to your quote.

I wouldn't exactly call the sound super high-end and all, I also may be biased since the speakers and sub were not upto the mark. But definitely leagues over the other guys with multicolor OEL displays that hiss like a pissed snake.

I think it's a good buy, hoping prices drop down further though.

Hey... How much did this dude pay??... just a point of reference that's all??...

And Yes... saw this on onlicecarstereo for USD331... @that price its a steal!!

But prices in S'pore are rock solid @ S$750-800 .. perhaps explains the current quote..

Most of the forums also have put this head, shoulders and the booties ahead of the 9855....

Okayy i checked with my local dealer, he at first didn't such a model exists after a few frantic calls on his cell he said he could 'arrange' it and he quoted around 22-24k. Tom i'll be checking it out or whenever he arranges it.

KB,why dont u go for alpine 04 & 05 series.Something like 9833-35,9853-55.Never heard high end pio HU but alpine has more ppl by its side than pio has.
If i am not mistaken,u r going for SQ set-up,so u should prefer alpine over pio as alpine tends to produce 'sweeter' sound as compared to 'treblish' sound of pio.[acc to many reviews and posts]

And alpine 9853-55's glide touch bar has not many takers but i cant find any problem with my 9853's glide touch bar.
