I think repairs must have been done recently. Back in January just after Chandil maybe after hardly 2/3 kms, the roads were horribly broken all the way to Pardih from where you take a right to enter Mango to go to Jamshedpur. Its good to hear that they have taken up repairs and 4 laning work on NH33. Hope they can do it right until Kolkata which will make getting to Jamshedpur so much easier.

Yes sir, you're right about the fact that repairs have started recently. I am based in Jamshedpur and do the Ranchi-Jamshedpur route quite frequently. After the left turn from Mango(while going towards ranchi), the roads till Chandil were extremely bad. Driving was possible at 20-25 kph only. But let me state the condition now. The road has been repaired/patched completely till Ranchi. Four Laning is in full progress. Even the cut-down trees have made a lot of space now. All trees have been cut-down. 4 laning work is proceeding very fast. Now you can easily do the 130 km stretch in 2 hours, or less. The roads are curvy and have long stretches too. The truckers are official Tata Steel drivers(mostly). They are very well trained and follow rules to the 'S'. They also have modern trucks like Primas etc. so pollution/or slow road hogging is not an issue. Overall you're going to enjoy the drive in a Fiesta Classic. The only problem is of refueling. There are many pumps but most are cheaters. Keep a list of 3 or 4 pumps where you should fill up. Same holds for the city Jamshedpur as well.

Thanks for the update. I remember doing that stretch in about 3.5 hours in a M800 7/8 years back. My father-in-law wasn't particularly pleased since it was his car . Cutting it down to 2 hours will do a lot of good actually.

Most importantly any news if they are fixing NH33 all the way from Jamshedpur till Baharagora where it meets NH6? This will be a boon for us who want to travel from Kolkata by road. Right now its in an equally royal mess.

Its still in a mess and is not being repaired anytime soon. Primary reason being that the route is Maoist infested in Ghatshila & nearby areas. Police stop all traffic at night on that route from Ghatshila. VIP's use 10-15 bullet-proof convoys. Emergency/urgent vehicles like ambulances are escorted by the police through the route. So people prefer trains rather than road travel & so it is not repaired. The Ranchi-Jamshedpur stretch is a commercially important stretch fot Tata's and the ministers of Jharkhand. CM Munda himself lives in Ghorabanda, Telco, jamshedpur. He makes around 1 trip to ranchi every 2 days. So you see why it is important. In the morning it takes 6 hours to reach Kolkota by road from Jamshedpur with an average driver(80 kph +- 10).

It would be a toss up between Baharagora - Jamshedpur, and Bohoragora - Chichira (NH6) as to which is the better car breaker!

I think I will have to travel to Jamahedpur again in March. After full five years. But in the same car that I drove then. I have been thinking of the possible routes. And, from Lucknow till Barhi (NH 2), the route is the most familiar one.

But what beyond that? Google Maps show the Bagodar/Topchanchi - Purulia route as the fastest. Are the roads this way actually good? Any updates will help. Also, I hope this route bypasses Bokaro.

Or else, what is the present state of NH 33 that takes you via Hazaribagh and Ranchi? Places are familiar to me but I do not have updates about the road conditions.

Hazaribagh to Ranchi is an excellent road and a very scenic one too. The complete road has been four laned, and the roads wind through forests and small hill. I am not very aware of the current condition between Jamshedpur and Ranchi, but 4 years back, the roads were 2 laned, but excellent and again very scenic.

Thanks a lot "autorahul" for the quick reply!

Yes. That was the situation with the Ranchi-Jamshedpur section till Chandil five years back. I hope the four laning is already completed in this section too.
