Question Bangalore - Pavagada - Mantralayam - Mahandi - Bangalore

I am planning this trip for coming weekend.

Day 1(Friday Evening): Bangalore to Pavagada via Doddballapur, Hindupur
Day 2: Pavagada - Dharmavaram - Anantapur - Gooty - Adoni - Mantralayam
Day 3: Stay at Mantralayam
Day 4: Mantralayam - (??) - Mahanandi -(??) Gooty - Bangalore

Does Day 4 is too much? Can it be managed? Only wife and myself will be travelling, are these roads safe?
Can anyone please suggest me a best route between Mantralayam - Mahanandi and Manhanandi - Gooty. Also pelase mention the current road condition.

Mode of Transport ?

Any particular reason for choosing to go via Pavagada ?

The road between Makli-Hindupur border is not tht great, though drivable.

The section between Hindupur and Pavagada (somewhere around venkatapuram) is not SAFE at late hours (Naxal menace).

Instead you can use NH7 to reach Anantapur (Max 4hrs from Blore) on Friday night and continue to Mantralayam on Saturday morning.

I will be travelling in my car Indigo CS. I have to attend a function on Saturday morning in Pavagada and hence cant avoid it. I have been to Pavagada in this route many times, never been a problem.

Mahanandi is some 25 km near Nandyal. From Mantralayam you have to get to Kurnool (I guess via Yemmiganur, search a few Hyderabad-Mantralayam travelogues you'll come to know. Kurnool-Nandyal is Hyd-Tirupati bus route.

Mahanandi-Nandyal-Kadapa-Rayachoti-Madanapalle-Chintamani-Bangalore is the route back.

Am planning Mantralayam, Srisailam this weekend too (from Madras) so might see you around

Is this road better than joining Bangalore - Hyderabad haighway at Gooty? Mahanandi to Gooty, the road condition and the safety are the questions for me on this route.

Does the route suggested by you is Naxal prone? is the route safe?

Which Mahanandi-Gooty route are you talking about ?

I don't think there are safety issues. Roads till Pileru are actually part of the HYD-TPTY bus route. If you are planning on using 4-laners as much as possible, best would be to retrace from Nandyal back to Kurnool and catch NH7 from there. I remember reading construction going on Rayachoti road for the 4-laning, so retracing Nandyal-Kurnool might actually be faster even though longer.

Its the Kadiri-Pulivendla thats been talked about having safety issues

Am on a blue i10 Magna starting on Saturday morning.

Despite the longer distance, would it not be a better idea to go to Pavagada via the faster Tumkur-Hiriyur-Challakere route?

I start from south of Bangalore and pick up my in-laws at Yelahanka. To reach Tumkur road one has to come back a considerable distance in city traffic. More than that road via Doddaballapur, Gauribidanur, Hindupur Pavagada is not so bad. Road between Gauribidanur and Hindupur is bad but manageable. It takes approx 3 hours to reach Pavagada from Yelahanka.

I usually take Tumkur - Sira - Pavagada if I start from my home near Bannerghatta Road. But it takes 4+ hours because of narrow roads after Sira.

I presume via Challakere is too far.. and not worth the trouble.

How about driving till Penukonda on NH7 and turning left?
I see in Google maps its about 35km from NH7. How is that road?
This commute should be fast, if this section (Penukonda-Pavagada) is in good condition.

This is very good option. Even though its longer but takes less time and good roads all the way.

I have noticed that the road in the area around Kurnool are generally in good condition. You can comfortably do Mantralayam - Kurnool - Nandyal - Mahanandi. On the way back you should come via Tadpatri and visit excellent temples there and come back via Ananatapur to bangalore.

Tadpatri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Since you are going all the way to Mahanandi, try and visit Ahobilam as well if you have time. Dont spend more than an ahour in Mahanandi.

How do you do that ? Am also curious about safety in areas around Tadipatri ?

Slightly related topic, how is Kadappa-Tadipatri-Gooty ? I guess roads are good, but how is it with regards to safety ?

Hi Narayan,

It is quite safe and i dont see any issues. Here is the link.

Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh to Tadipatri, Andhra Pradesh - Google Maps

If you are planning Bellum caves - which you should - it falls midway.

There is also a beautiful reservoir - OWK Reservoir - on this route.

Panoramio - Photo of Owk Reservoir

You can also take a glimpse at the Cuddappa stone quaries and see amazing layered formations of Cuddappa stones.

I am not sure about road condition of Gooty - Tadaptri - Cuddppah. But generally, the roads in Rayala seema are good as it does not rain heavily
