Thanks everyone for route information.Reached Gir with two stops at Vapi and Rajkot.

Day 1 - Left Bangalore at 6 AM,Crossed Mumbai at around 11 PM (Special thanks to HVK for Mumbai expressway -NH8 step by step Route map) Reached Vapi at 4 AM on Day 2.Longish drive with me being the lone driver but only the last 50 kms were a bit of stretch.

Day 2 -Left Vapi at 3 PM and Reached Rajkot at 1 AM on Day 3.No issues at Narmadha bridge.

Day 3- Left Rajkot at 10 AM and Reahced Gir at 1 PM in time for the Evening 3PM Safari.Spotted a Leopard in this safari besides several other animals and Birds.

Day 4 -Morning Safari at 6.30 AM.Spotted a pride of 8 Lions besides several other animals and Birds.

Plan for tommorow-Gir to Somnath in the Morning and Somnath to Dwarka in the Afternoon with a Night Halt in Dwarka.

Road condition from Bangalore all the way to Gir has been awesome with very few rough roads.

Day 5- Left Sasan Gir at 9.30 Am and reached Somnath in time for the 12 PM Aarthi. Aarthi was great.Left for Dwarka at 1 PM and reached at 6 PM.Halted at Dwarka for the night at Hotel Dwarika.Had booked a hotel earlier near the temple but the surroundings were not good. This hotel is on the main road not far from temple.Visited Dwarikadeesh temple in the evening.

Day 6- Visited Beyt Dwarka,Rukmani temple,Nageswar temple,Gopi Talab. We booked a Local Taxi (Tavera for Rs.1500) for the visists since the roads enroute to Beyt Dwarka and Nageshwar temples are not good.Left for Ahmedabad at 4 PM(via Jamnagar-Rajkot) and reached Ahmedabad at 12 PM.Roads till Jamnagar were 2 lane (but good) and after Jamnagar were 4 Lane (excellent).Stayed at Hotel Shangrila on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway (19 kms from city).Decent hotel for a night stay.

Plan for Day 7- Visit Ahmedabad and leave for Shirdi by 11 AM.Planning to take Ahmedabad -Surat...Dhule (NH6)-Malegoan (NH3 I think)-Shirdi (Any better routes?).How much will be travel time from Ahmedabad to Shirdi?

Ahmedabad BHPians- Any good bargain shops for Cotton sarees,Dressess/Tops in Ahmedabad?Need good suggestions for ensuring peaceful onward journey
:-)

Onward from Shirdi to Bangalore,Am planning journey via Shirdi -Pune.
What is the normal travel time and road condition? Are the roads single lane/Double lane?

That is the best route. Continue on Surat bypass towards Bombay, and you will see the exit for Bardoli/Dhule. No need to go into city.

You should take approximately 9-10 hours for A'bad-Shirdi.

I guess you must have already reached Udaipur. Hope you had a pleasant drive? Ahmedabad-Udaipur is a breeze with an excellent road. If time permits, you could also check out Nathdwara Temple of Lord Krishna (approx 50 km north of Udaipur) and Haldighati (were Akbar and Rana Pratap fought the historic battle in which Rana Pratap was defeated). You can cover both the places in half a day.

Thanks.Already reached Udaipur this morning at 7 AM.Good roads all through, reached in 4.5 hours without any issues.Udaipur is more of a personal visit.Did manage to see the palace and took the boat ride today.May not be able to make it to Nathdwara/Haldighati this time.May be will plan a separate trip to Rajasthan next year.

Most of the route details have been mentioned in this thread. For the last part

1. Udaipur-Shirdi - I took the Udaipur-Gandhi Nagar-Sardar Patel Ring road-Surat-Dahiwel (NH6 road to Dhule) -Pimpelner- Satana-NH3-Take left turn on to the highway and 1st Right -Manmad- Koergoan-Shirdi

We left Udaipur at 12 PM.Till Surat, the roads are awesome.Reached Gandhi Nagar at 3.00 PM and took a break there till 4 PM.I did the mistake of not taking a night break there and continued onward since we reached Surat by about 7 PM (since I thought it was too early to take a break) and ended up driving the entire night and reached Shirdi in the morning at 7 AM. NH6 is a single lane (undivided 2 lane) road in most stretches (4 Laning is in progress). Dahiwel -Satana road is a decent road suggested by a truck driver after I got stuck in a massive traffic jam in NH6 due to an accident. The journey took me a solid 20 hours of driving with breaks reason being Heavy rains for an hour just after I turned into NH6, Massive Traffic Jam and a forced detour into a Village with horrible roads (My vehicle is a Civic A/T), Slow driving due to tiredness with frequent nap breaks during last 5 hours.

2.Shirdi -Bangalore I took the Ahmednagar -Pune -Satara -NH4 route.Again did it non stop since I had to reach Bangalore on Friday morning. Journey time 20 Hours with 2 hours of Breaks.Shirdi -Ahmednagar -Pune stretch, though 4 lane goes through towns without bypass. We left Shirdi by 8.30 AM and reached Pune outskirts at 12 PM. There is no Bypass in Pune to Reach NH4 and you have to Go inside the City -through Hadapsar-Magarpatta-Swargate-Katraj (Not difficult to find since markings are quite clear). It took us around 1 hour approximately to reach the Katraj Ghats. From there on it is NH4 all the way till Bangalore.

Stay Points:

1. Vapi - Budget Palm residency -Decent ,easily accessible from NH 8.
2. Rajkot - Hotel Kavery - Little bit inside the City. But took the help of an Auto walah to escort us there from the highway.Again decent hotel for a night halt.
3.Sasan Gir - Lion Safari Camp- Very nice though a bit on the expensive side.
Note that Sasan Gir Closes on 15 June for monsoon.
4.Dwarka - We stayed at Hotel Dwarika on the main road since we found the area near the temple to be quite lousy and dirty.
5.Ahmedabad- Hotel Shangrila on the Rajkot Ahmedabad Highway about 19 Kms before Ahmedabad. We checked in since we did not know about other hotels in Ahmedabad.Again decent for a night halt. You might find better options on Ahmedabad - Gandhinagar road (which we spotted on the way to Udaipur)
6.Udaipur- Hotel Baba Palace -OKish hotel among the limited options available out there.

Hope this gets you started on your trip planning.

Cheers

Instead of Dahiwel - Satana- Manmad, would you advice on continuing on NH 6 till Dhule and then NH3 till Malegaon then onto Manmad-Shirdi?

If you faced such heavy traffic on NH6 during night, I suppose it would be even worse during the day? Are there good restaurants / petrol pumps on this route?

Dhule-Malegoan-Manmad route was what I had in mind.Per truck driver who suggested me Satana route, this route is 40 Kms shorter than Dhule-Malegoan route, also traffic was lesser than in NH6.Nh6 Traffic jam was purportedly due an accident.I have done Bhilai-Nagpur-Dhule during Day a year ago,Traffic was not too heavy at that time.

I did not find any good restaurants on the way till Dahiwel.Did spot one or two nearer to Surat side but they did not seem to be good ones. After a few (50 or so Kms inside NH6), there were hardly any restaurants.

Petrol pumps are there but not sure if they were good ones. But once I left NH6 at Dahiwel, there was nothing open.No restaurants/Shops/Petrol Pumps.
I did this stretch between 10 PM and 2 AM.

I would suggest to cover this stretch in day time and pack food if necessary before leaving Surat.
