Bangalore to Kannur - Road info needed

The route taken by you touched MATHUKKOTH then Mele Chovva, right ?

If your destination is Kannur, you don't have to take the Anjarakkandy route. It's a longer route and an unnecessary detour.

ThankQ for your inputs. A wedding **kindled a dormant desire to reconnect with pretty much a long lost 'hometown' ** Kannur is the destination. Dep Blr this Sat 3rd morning by 7 am and back on Sunday 4th with a post wedding lunch dep Kannur by 2.30 pm. Will be taking the Srirangapatna byepass and braving the Gonikoppa challenge...cheers!

I was going through the thread to find the best route now towards kannur. But a lot of suggestions and routes and now i am lost in routes

Can anyone summarise the best route to Kannur... I am driving from HSR layout to kannur (pilathara) and mostly thursaday early morning 3 AM.

One of my cousines who drew down couplf weeks back told me not to take virajpet road and go further to take one more left which is towards ORANGE county (I did see this route in some previous post, but was not clear)... And i suppose it is 10 Km extra...

try this one the actual route I took, at periyapatnam instead of turning left go on till Kushal nagar and then to siddapur.

You can take Srirangapatana - Hunsur - Periyaptana - Kushalanagar - Siddapura - Ammathi - Virajpet - Koottupuzha - Iritty (Don' take to the town, seeing the bridge at left, take straight) - Irikkur - Sreekantapuram - Thalipparamba (NH17) - Pilathara.

Here is the route I am planning

HSR > NICE Road > Mysore Road > Srirangapatna > Round about sharp turn to right > Elivala > Bilikere > Hunsur > Kampala pura > Periya patna > (Mysore - madikeri road) Kushalnagara(follow orange county board) > Siddapura > Ammathi town > Virajpet > Koottupuzha Bridge, Thalassery Coorg Road > Do not take bridge to iritty town > Irikkur > Srikanda puram > taliparamba > pilathara.

OR

IRITTY > MATTANUR > EDAYANNUR > CHALODE > KOODALI > MATHUKKOTH > KANNUR (in case if i have to go to Kannur to pick up my brother on the way)

Suggest any better route if you have...

PS: I have driven many times before with companies, but this extra carefull about route cuz i am alone and its not fun to be lost when alone

Back from my Kannur trip 3-4 Sep.,'11. Nithin's detailed update dt 30 Aug.,'11 was spot on. My two cents of edit, BAD = off roader's delight. My so called 'braving' the Gonikoppa challenge was nothing short of foolhardiness, despite all the red signals in the thread .
A mis-adventure to say the least. So avoid Gonikoppal at any cost and via Kushalnagar is THE better option to Kannur...

Caught up with a fellow bhpian in white swift who initially didn't catch my flashing headlight (nor did I persist with it), so tailed him for a while till he pulled over at Vallithode n I passed him with my hazard lights flashing. He did catch up with me but did not react to my LTD on my rear windscreen. Missed saying hi to you buddy.

First of all thanks for the update on the Gonikoppal rd,when i rode down in Feb 2011 its was manageable but by seeing the pics its definite no at any cost.

I'm planning to ride down solo on my RE C500 from Bangalore to Thalaserry

So I believe the best route for me is similiar :

From Kalyan nagar towards Mysore Road > Srirangapatna > Round about sharp turn to right > Elivala > Bilikere > Hunsur > Kampala pura > Periya patna > (Mysore - madikeri road) Kushalnagara(follow orange county board) > Siddapura > Ammathi town > Virajpet > Koottupuzha Bridge, Thalassery Coorg Road > Iritty > Kutuparambu > Tellicherry .


Please let me know if this is the best route if anyone has been to Thalaserry recently ....Happy Onam every one

Yes, NOW this is the best route. Roads are not best, thanks to rains, but ok barring bad patches.
