Default Any place to go near Bangalore for a weekend?

The hitch here is NO driving. It will have to be via bus/train.

Friends work real late. So, leaving on Friday night is not happening. They will have to leave on Saturday morning and be back by sunday night or latest monday morning.

What are the options?

What sort of destinations are you looking at? I feel that your options would be limited as there are two tough conditions - no driving and no friday evening travel.

My earlier post fell through the cracks it seems.

Nikhil, since you dont have friday night travel option, consider this. Instead of going way out of town to a hill station or something, go to a resort on the outskirts of Bangalore and spend the weekend chilling out there.

Try BR hills, you can get accommodation in the Forest Rest House there. There are buses directly from Bangalore or you can go to Chamrajnagar & onwards from there. For accommodation you need to go to Chamrajnagar & take permission from the forest office. Check before you go though.

Chikmagalur or Madikeri is also an option. You may have to hire a taxi locally to move around. Bus connectivity from Bangalore is good.

Default Please suggest a 3-4 day Trip From Bangalore within 500 kms

Guys,

Have been planning for a trip with friends from bangalore. We are not able to finalize on a good place .The main criteria are

1)Duration of the trip will be 3 to 4 days maximum
2)Maximum distance should be around 400 to 500 kms.
3)Preferably good roads and drive should be scenic.
4)Should get good accommodation since some of them will be coming with their wifes.

Coorg and pondy is ruled out since we have been there last year

BHPians please give your valuable inputs.

Read thru the travelogues and you will get an idea.

There are tons of them, especially from people traveling in all directions from Bangalore.

And, this is the wrong section; this is supposed to be in queries section!

1.Chikamagalur/Sakleshpura/Belur/Kukkesubramanya/Mangalore... But this might be more than 500+.

2. Mysore - Ooty - Kodaikanal.

Your best bet would be the Chitradurga-Hampi-Aihole-Pattadkal-Badami trail. Check out my travelog

You want to sack out or do stuff? Beach, jungle, heritage, hill station? Check wayanad jungles (spell?) or some beach resort.

If its all guys, would also suggest place called Malaya Maruta - its about 20kms from Mudigere in the Charmadi ghats. Lovely place all around .. its basically a forest guest house in the ghats. There are a few beds with rugs to keep you from freezing in the night and there's no electricity So, you live absolutely peacefully, away from all the bustle of this concrete jungle called Bangalore!! The last 20-30 kms can be a bit of a pain to drive, but otherwise wonderful all the way. Its about 300 kms from Blore.

Posting a coupla pics -

Could you give us some more details? How do we book this guest house? Can it be done from bangalore? What about food arrangements?
Can we get it all done through you?

You need to get prior permission to stay in the guest house. I went there last in late 2006 - we had written to the Forest office in Chikmagalur. I google'd the number on the net - take the address where u need to post the letter to from these guys. I'll try n hunt for the number from my emails - which might take a bit of time

Range Forest Officer,
Wildlife Range,
Kudremukh,
Mudigere Taluk,
Chikmagalur District.
Ph: (08263) 355998

Just a note of caution, wait until the rains stop, unless you like to venture into the forests in the rains It rains quite heavily in this stretch!

btw - if you happen to reach the number, lemme know! would love to go back there again

missed the other bits! There is a cook in the guest house, who prepares decent food - dont miss the fried fish, he usually gets fresh fish from the local market in mudigere
