| Hi Knightrider, If you have the days free with you, I suggest you drive in the day time rather than night time. In the night truck drivers are the kings and maniacs too. This is the route you can choose to drive on, and the route is pretty cool too. Bangalore - Tumkur - Chitadurga - Haveri - Hubli - Karwar - Margao - Panaji - Calangute Donot take the hubli - Panaji route via Anmod Ghats that take you via mollem - Ponda to Goa please, that route is in a horrible state. Going at a speed of around 50 - 60 kmph average, you should be able to finish the 730 kilometers stretch to Calangute in around 13 - 14 hours. Petrol bunks are plenty on the way, only ensure that you fuel yourself when the tank reaches half. Secondly between Hubli and Karwar I am not sure of the refueeling bunks .. so fuel up before going this way. I dont advice driving in the night because 1. traffic is going to be a nightmare with blaring lights on you. 2. If you are driving with AC, the heat should not be a problem, and roads well visible. Most of the road till Hubli is 2 x 2 which means its a one way zoom. You have plenty of dabba's on the way to stop, but I advice to stop at Kamat Upachar houses, they are one of the best, a little expensive but quite good. Have a great trip!!! Ask me if you need more details. |

| Senior - BHPian | Knight Rider, There are 3 routes to Goa from Bangalore : 1. Bangalore - Mangalore - Karwar - Goa 2. Bangalore - Shimoga - Karwar - Goa 3. Bangalore - Hubli - Goa Route 1 is bit lengthy by 100 - 150 kms, but is the best. Roads are pretty good and traffic is not much, Mangalore to Goa route is very scenic, you pass thru Murudeshwar, Marawanthe etc. In Marawanthe, you can see the Arabian Sea on your left, pretty close to the highway. Route 2 is 2nd best, good roads mostly, some places after Shimoga has narrow roads, traffic is negligible, route is scenic. Route 3: pretty good roads thanks to Golden Quad project, but lotz of traffic, esp. heavy vehicles, since it connects Blore to Hubli, Pune & Mumbai.

| BHPian | Take route 2 via Shimoga, u can stop at Jog Falls too, the roads are the best amongst three options listed. We usually manage 8 hours and a max of 10 hours depends on stops. route 2 is the best. There is another route via Belgaum, man thats the best if you wanna offroad (due to the size of pot holes on the Londa Road), dont even think of this route

| just before hubli you take a left that leads to ankola, its also called the yellapur road.....it leads to karwar. start early, have lunch in hubli, hit karwar by about 3 then head for goa from there. the traffic within goa is a bit heavy. you should be in calangute by about 6 in the evening. it takes me about 12 hours with all the stops for food and gas (i normally fill from the reliance bunk just before hubli) to get there from bangalore. many claim to do it faster though.
