Default Srisailam - Water Levels

Has anyone been to Srisailam recently and advice on the water levels on the reservoir. How many gates of the dam are open ?

We were free yesterday and weather being cloudy, we decided to go on a drive in the afternoon. I was thinking of a place to go and I remembered about Manjira bird sanctuary. A few forum members had tried to visit the Manjira bird sanctuary unsuccessfully. I did a quick search on the web and although they were not very accurate, they seemed to point out that it was near to Sangareddy somewhere in between Singur and Manjira barrage. We did not have time for the sanctuary but we thought we will go till Sangareddy and ask our way to Manjira dam.

We took the old Mumbai road to join NH9. Sangareddy is around 35 km from Gachibowli and the diversion from NH9 is well marked. From Sangareddy we took a left which brought us to our destination without much ado but for a sore behind. Now the pics.

Greenery on the way.

We were not allowed beyond this point.

We spotted somebody rowing.

There is place enough for a small party. We even saw one group doing some picnic cooking.

There is also a very small museum and a crocodile breeding center. This one wanted to say cheese.

You need to turn right from NH9 after crossing Kandi, around 15 km from Patancheru. Proceed another 2-3 km towards Sangareddy. Then you need to take a left turn. There will be a small traffic police point there. Then onwards keep following the road more or less straight. This road is a little bad though.

Here is a pictorial view.

Default Sankranti Holidays

Been itching to go somewhere on a short break and looks like the upcoming Sankranti weekend might be a good time to head out.

Places that are the in reckoning are :
  1. Goa - Been there
  2. Hampi - Been there
  3. Ajanta Ellora - Never been there
Our main concern is one way distance shouldn't be more than 350 Kms. Please suggest some other alternatives.

Cheers

Hey MC, what dates are sankranti breaks?

I am quite interested for ajanta/ellora as well - do let me know if you get the route details and there is a good resort at the end to stay over.

Is Tadoba/Pench not reachable in a day? I guess chances of sighting any feline species will be less in this weather but I have heard one of these two places allow you to take your ride inside rather than hiring the gypsy.

@adzegeek & MC

I did Hyd -> Nanded ->Lonar -> Ajanta/ Ellora trip recently.
Unfortunately it is over 550 Kms so are most of the other places in AP.

You can consider the following in the 350 Kms range

Kuntala (highest waterfalls in AP)
Suryalanka (beach)
Belum (caves)

Default Manjeera Dam Getaway

Been to Manjeera Dam on Sunday,Spotted some crocodiles lazing around in the pond,Got permission to go onto the Dam where visitors are not allowed,Also clicked a snap of the pump house from where the water is pumped into the purification plant.

Couldn't find any birds as its was afternoon.

Had lunch at Sher-E-Punjab dhaba after crossing sangareddy food is average but have heard that its the best in that area.

By the way found that the easiest way to reach this place is through sangareddy town.

Please find attached the snaps from my getaway.

Which of these would be advisable (based on your recent experiences with the roads)?
  1. Hyderabad - Pune - Mumbai outskirts - Vapi - Daman
    (NH9 + NH4 + NH8: ~840 Kms, ~13 hours)
  2. Hyderabad - Bangalore - Mandya - Mysore - Mudumalai - Ooty
    (NH7 + ?NH67: ~850 Kms, ~13 hours)
  3. Hyderabad - Bangalore - Krishnagiri - Salem - Erode - Coimbatore - Ooty
    (NH7 + NH47: ~990 Kms, ~13 hours)
Or some other place in the same time-duration zone. I have the following constraints: [1] Full forward and return trip (back to Hyd) needs to be within 1 day, or a day and a half max. [2] Time at the destination to do sightseeing for atleast one day.
