| Not all drinking and driving is irresponsible or illegal. The problem is that there is no clarity on the issue and cops would rather keep it thataway because then they can scam you. According to the RTO website: SEC. 185. DRUNKEN DRIVING OR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS. Whoever, while driving, or attempting to drive, a Motor Vehicle, - (a) Has in his blood, alcohol exceeding 30 mg. /per.100 ml. of blood detected in a test by a breath analyzer, or (b) Is under the influence of a drug to such an extent as to be incapable of exercising proper control over the vehicle. Mumbai Traffic Police So here's what you have to do: 1. Get a valid drinking permit - any liquor shop or club/gym with a bar should be able to help you get one. Doesn't cost much and will save you loads of cop trouble. Normally, even if you are below the legal limit, the cops will nail you because you don't have this permit. 2. Stay below the legal limit - thumb rule is either 2 pints of beer or 1 small drink over a couple of hours. It depends from person to person though. Also be sure to keep a printout of the RTO website with you, so you can "educate" any cop who's trying to extract money. Hope this helps everybody. Not sure how to avoid section (b) yet. Will post when I figure it out. ![]() |

| ...in the good ol' days, we used to usually pub-crawl on Brigades/Church street (Bangalore) most of the evening, and then only get into the car and drive to the next pub when we were just too gone to be able to walk straight...but now, with age and wisdom(?) having caught up...my signature here says it all...sigh!

| WOW! For a minute there, i actually thought that tips were being posted on this topic! But seriously, I have been involved in a lot of drunken driving (Fauji background be praised!) and have now migrated to a designated driver action plan. Of course, 'flying' has its own advantages...The failsafe is the absolute lethargy that takes over.....immediate immobility....!!! ![]()

| Hmm... This thread seems to be attracting a lot of things other than the actual topic..(party and all at Delhi...LOL) But its high time that our (un)beloved system takes charge on such cases and put the youngsters in my age group on their toes when it comes to drinking and driving.. By the way does the act also include riding too?? Im just curious! And what do females do about the drinking permit? I mean they must figure out if there is a another way they can get the permit instead of hitting the local bar!!(I wouldnt wanna dare goin inside ) or even go to the liquor shop!! |

| BHPian | guys, whatever maths you do be careful on drunken drive. That's going to cost your license on spot. Read this from TimesofIndia website Drunk drivers will lose licence on spot-India-NEWS-The Times of India "The new provision will give authorities the power to get people who’ve downed one peg too many off the roads with immediate effect.Apart from hiking thepenalties for rash driving, the ministry is also keen to increase compensation for accident victims from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000. The move follows a series of high-profile accidents caused by drunken driving. " |
