Wow! Thanks Mr.HVK! That was so detailed and quick!

Yes, this is basically a Temples trip with some sightseeing thrown in.

My relatives from Mumbai will be joining in (by train) at Solapur. So I am planning the onward trip as follows:

Hyderabad - Solapur - Pandharpur - Tuljapur - Ellora (Ghrishneswar) - Aurangabad - Ajanta - Jamner -Bodvad - Edalabad - Burhanpur - Khandwa - Omkareshwar - Barwah - Maheshwar - Dhamnod - Mhow - Indore - Ujjain

We are not keen on visiting Indore and if there is a byepass towards Ujjain, we will take that.

On our return trip, we would like to cover Lonar, Aundah Nagnath and, time and energy permitting, Parli-Vaijnath (Actually, Parli is easily reachable from Hyderabad by an overnight train, so we can do a single day trip there easily anytime - so we may want to get home from Aundah directly).

So I think our return route will be: Ujjain-Indore-Dhule-Aurangabad-Jalna-Sultanpur-Lonar - Mehkar - Washim - Hingoli - Aundha Nagnath - Parli Vaijnath - Osmanabad - Hyderabad.

Any idea of what the driving times would be for the following segments?
(a) Ujjain - Jalna
(b) Jalna - Lonar (not sure whether we need a night stay at Lonar - does one have to trek down the crater or is there a motorable road now?)
(c) Lonar - Aundah
(d) Aundah - Hyderabad (direct, via Nanded and Nirmal)

Many thanks once again.

Routing is fine.

Continue on NH3 bypass at Indore, and exit towards its north end for Ujjain, this will take you through a small part of the city. Indore-Ujjain is also an excellent 4-laned road.
Another choice would be to go off NH3 at Manpur, take the Manpur-Lebad expressway (don't bother to look for it in G Maps, it is not there in it!), then turn off the Ratlam road at Badhnawar for Ujjain, excellent road all the way, will avoid Indore totally.

If you skip Parli, then you can go direct from Aundha to Nanded & join NH7 at Nizamabad to reach Hyderabad via Medchal.

Drive time is a quotient of your cruising speeds & more importantly breaks that you may take en route.

Ujjain - Jalna: 10-12 hours
Jalna - Lonar: 1.5 hours
Lonar - Aundha: <3 hours
Aundha - Hyderabad: 6-7 hours

Sorry to bother again, but a few more questions -- thankful for your advice on how we can bypass Aurangabad.

(a) Travelling from Tuljapur to Ellora (NH 211), is there a route that bypasses Aurangabad?

(b) Is there a direct route from Ellora to Ajanta which bypasses Aurangabad?

(b) On our return leg, while travelling from Dhule to Jalna, is there a way to bypass Aurangabad?

No. When you come up north from Tuljapur, you have to first join the Jalna Road & then proceed towards Ahmedanagar to get to the road to Ellora which is at the west end of town. However, it is a very simple route involving just one left turn (from Tuljapur road to Jalna Road) & then a right (from Jalna Road to Ellora road).

Yes. You can go direct from Ellora to Ajanta. You will see clear signage pointing to Sillod.

No. The Dhule Road will intersect with the Ellora road & you have to join the Jalna road. No problems.

I'm planning a solo trip in my Vento to Indore from Hyderabad in the first week of May. Can someone help with the following questions?

a) The route suggested by Naren_gs in this thread is "BTW, to recap, route would be BASAR-BHAINSA-BHOKAR-ARDHAPUR PHATA-VASMAT PHATA-AUNDHA-HINGOLI-WASHIM-PATUR-BALAPUR-KHAMGAON-MALKAPUR-ICHAPUR-BURHANPUR-KHANDWA BYPASS." Is this still good?
b) If I leave Hyderabad early (say 5 AM) would I be able to reach Indore by late evening? Not too keen to drive in the night in an unknown highway.
c) Any safety issues driving alone in this stretch?

a) the road from Icchapur to Indore is a two lane toll road and is in good condition but with heavy traffic. Also as Indore is on height the last stretch of 30 kms on this road has three ghats (not that steep) but with heavy traffic u might end up driving behind the truck all the time with lesser possibility of over taking.

b) the bus from Indore-Hyd (yes there is one) leaves at 5 pm and reaches HYD at approx 11.30 am next day...but it travels in the night so please allow for some more time. Also enroute you might not find good places to stay the night so its better to start at 3 or 4 am if you are comfortable.

c) its a running road so i dont think there would be a issue atleast not from Icchapur to Indore. for the first part i really dont know.

Hope this helps . for any other help let me know. btw where do u plan to stay at Indore.

That was very helpful.Thanks. Will keep your advise of leaving early in mind.

I'm joining a course in IIM Indore and have to be there for the best part of May and June. Hence planning to drive down rather than take a flight, so that I'll have some mobility.

Instead you could also try the Hyderabad-NH9-Naldurg-Osmanabad-Aurangabad-DHULE-SENDHWA-DHAMNOD-INDORE.Roads are good.Ofcourse could be slightly longer.Aurangabad can be a night halt option

Well if alternate routes are to be explored than the shortest route and with a really less traffic would be

Hyderabad - Nirmal - Adilabad-Yavatmal-Amravati-Paratwada-Khandwa-Indore

Its only 890 kms with good ghats and motorable road. The Road between Paratwada and Khandwa is almost entire ghat with newly laid road (work still going on) and passes through a wildlife century (read chikaldhara hill station) though it will be hot but its almost 200 kms less driving with really less traffic.

Ideally your night stay can be planned at Amravati if you want to break it up in 2 days .

Planning to a road trip from indore to hyderabad on a two wheeler. Request suggestions from BHPians on route to be taken.
Considering the following options based on previous discussions on this thread and other forums.
1. indore - dhule - aurangabad - homnabad - hyderabad
2. indore - burhanpur - nanded - nizamabad - hyderabad

The first route is longer but consists of major National highways and also I would get the chance to stopover at auranagabad - this being my first trip over such long distances on a bike.

Second seems to be shorter and adequately good roads as per previous comments on this thread. Doing the trip on a two wheeler, I guess narrow two lane highways will definitely pose a problem with faster moving traffic.

Request my fellow BHPians to suggest the best route for this trip.

Planning to do a trip from indore to hyderabad on a bike. This will be my first long trip on a bike.

Request fellow BHPians to suggest the shortest route based on road conditions. Planning to do it in two days with a stopover.

Considering the following options
1. indore - dhule - aurangabad - homnabad - hyderabad
2. Indore - burhanpur - balapur - nanded - nizamabad - hyderabad

The following route map posted earlier seems to be the shortest one. I need advice on the road condition though(considering my mode of travel - bike).

http://goo.gl/maps/wD6Pe

Request alternate route suggestions or general tips regarding the trip.

Check Pune-Hyderabad threads. That has quite some details about NH9. Quite some work ongoing. So dont expect good roads all the while.

Hello

I had gone to kerala and right now I am on my way way back to Delhi. I am at Krishnagiri and we are planning to visit Tirupati today and then head to Indore from there and then to Delhi.

Please guide me with the route I need to take from Tirupati. I have thought of Tirupati-Hyderabad-Nagpur-Indore-Ajmer-Delhi

Also, for Tirupati there are two routes from here. One goes via Vellore and the other through Chittoor. Which one is better?

Is it ok? How are the roads on this route? please guide me

Hi,

The best route would be as follows:

Tirupati - Hyd (madnapalle-anantpur-kurnool-hyd)

Hyd - indore

2 options:

1. Hyd - Nagpur - Amravati - Akola - Burhanpur - Indore

This road has 30 kms of bad stretch on the AP-MH border. Rest all is excellent.

2. Hyd-Aurangabad-Dhule-Indore

On this one, Zaherabad to Naldurg is in bad shape. Naldurg to Aurangabad way back in Sep'12 was okayish with signs top surface giving away. This would have further deteriorated. Hyd-Aurangabad would take anywhere between 11-12 hours with breaks. Although you have Osmanabad and other smaller cities, facilites are poor.

(If I were to go to Indore from Hyd, I would take the Nagpur route)

3. Indore - Ajmer

Take the GQ upto Nasirabad and take the left exit to Ajmer. Awesome roads.

4. Ajmer - Delhi

Straight head to Jaipur and then decide if you want to take the Jaipur - Delhi or Jaipur - Agra - Delhi.

Enjoy your trip.

You must be on your way by now. Hope you took the route via Vellore. Much better option.

Gaurav, has answered most parts.

- NH9 from Hyderabad is undergoing road works. It can be quite a pain.
- Instead of Nagpur, you can also do Nizamabad-Bhainsa-Nanded-Akola-Burhanpur-Indore. Confirm on road conditions though. Its low on facilities on the highway as per what I gather
