To reach Gemini flyover, take the Poonamallee bypass. You will go over one flyover and then on the side of the next one by default. Stick to the right lane (near the flyover wall) and at the junction below the flyover take a right. Continue for a km or so and there is a big left. Take that left which leads towards Porur - MGR hospital - Guindy. Continue Straight on Guindy after crossing Kathipara junction and this is Mount Road. Keep heading straight down this road and after probably 8 - 10 kms you will hit Gemini flyover.

Hope this helps.
Thanx. Sentil! It does help.

Heard there is a alternate way, going through bann. road which skips EC.

The right turn indicated by csentil is well marked - look for the sign that says "Porur".

The left turn after that is marked, though not too well. There is a "LONG LIVE CLASSICAL TAMIL" board at this junction which can be very heartening if you don't know where to turn! You will see the "RINGFEDER" building on your left, which is where you will have to take a very sharp left turn. Going straight (by mistake or otherwise) will lead you to a T-junction (where left takes you to Mangadu) and straight will take you beyond Poonamalee Bus Station and back to NH4 (leading to Bangalore).

After you cross the Chennai Trade Centre at Nandambakkam on your right, the road narrows and you need to take the left as soon as you see McRennett (I think) bakery on your left. This will lead you to the Kathipara grade separator - keep straight on this and you will reach the Gemini flyover after crossing Guindy, Saidapet, Nandanam & Teynampet.

You don't want to go down that route, do you? That's the NICE corridor and the connecting part from Bannerghatta Road is pathetic for a km or so.

Thanks guys for all the tips. On the way to chennai, stopover was at 'hotel tamilnadu' at krishnagiri. Food was OK. Almost missed out on kathipara junction.. but could make it back. On the way back, had a stopover at kanchi. Rest, went all fine. Coming back roads are bad once you enter k'taka.

You can also take a LEFT at the Porur Junction instead of going to Guindy. Thats a straight road all the way to Gemini Flyover

guys am planning a one day return trip to chennai from bangalore this Sunday and I need to know how good the roads are on GC? Are there any construction work going on right now and are all the diversions removed? Also whats the average travel time given today's truck traffic?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info.

As an aside, is it not possible for Team-BHP, through its collective wisdom, to evolve a National Standard on speedbreakers (and enforce the Standard)?

Was there any attempt in this direction?

Raja

No offense but can we please restrict this thread to route updates?

Agreed. Is there a thread in Team-BHP where Speedbreakers can be discussed? Thanks.

Towards Madras:
Road after Walajahpet (Samudram) toll plaza is being re-laid. Affected stretches tonight started at Periyakarambur, passed through Ocheri and ended at Kalathur.

Towards Bangalore:
Traffic towards Madras is diverted to RHS lane of this direction. Starts at Kalathur (identified by the town name sign + "Canara Bank ATM ahead" sign), passes through Ocheri and ends at Periyakarambur.

In either direction, NH4 through Ocheri town is a mess thanks to this. Be ready for minor traffic jams. Expect travel times to extend by 30 minutes if using NH4 between Sriperumbudur & Ranipettai.
