| BHPian | Hello Car Ethusiasts! I am planning a road trip from Bangalore to Mumbai somewhere in 1st week of august and would like to have some inputs from people who have done that stretch. I have a few queries based on my research 1. From mapmyindia.com, I could get the directions which state that NH4 is the one connecting these two major cities and i wanted to know how is the road condition and approximately how many hours would it take to cover 1000 kms keeping in mind the road topology. 2. Do i need to take a permit at the check posts for entering Maharashtra.? Please revert back on these and also other tips and pointers too would be appreciated and welcomed and ofcourse Thanks In Advance. Vijay

.. no worries there.. If you plan to get into Pune.. dont do it via Katraj.. use the Katraj bypass and then get in if needed.I dont think so. whats the permit u have in mind?? | |

| Senior - BHPian | My Suggession: 1) Start from BLR at 3AM 2) Breakfast at Ranibennur A1 Plaza at 7:30AM (about 300km from here) Blr - Tumkur - Sira - Chitradurga - Davangere - Ranibennur, Watch out for Tumkur BP....Dont cross 100kmph after Chitradurga as there are often diversions... 3) Lunch at Belgaum (Ranibennur - haveri - Hubli - Belgaum) 4) Belgaum to Pune can be easily done within 4 hours nonstop.... 5) You should reach Mumbai before sunset if u plan up the trip nicely... I know u cannot do nonstop like Kumar but there are many people who often do Mumbai - Blr in 15 hours quite easily...trick is u should start at 3AM... Abhi

| Happily, all towns are bypassed, saving you lot of time and trouble navigating through crowds. There are Reliance petrol pumps (with good clean toilets, and sometimes A1 Plazas) throughout (at least 1 every 50 kms). Traffic zones are Kolhapur-Pune. At Belgaum, Hotel Sankam Residency (100 metres where you enter town) is a good place to have lunch. As Abhi said, lot of people do this trip in 15 hours or so. |

| BHPian | ...i havent done inter states ever before and i was just wondering if entering into another state would require one. i am travelling on my own alto so i suppose that query is irrelevant ,however i think tolls are common on this golden quad stretch...

| Like akroy mentioned the stretch between chitradurga and hubli approx 195kms is the only bad patch, the roads are decent but quite some diversions. Also expect some showers around Hubli but awesome roads tarmac, flat and curves ![]()

| Anyone has an update on the Davangere-Harihar bypass? That is one never-ending construction job. This is normally a terrible section during rainy season, unless the construction work is complete. Another place to watch out for is Tumkur bypass, the signages are bad that you tend to go into town, missing the bypass entry point (Bangalore side) completely. |

| BHPian | Though I planned and started this thread in June, the time has come down to venture into this trip finally. Thanks all of you guys for your pointers then which will be useful for me now and also i needed to know this. Do Petrol bunks on this route accept cards (say on a scale of 10 is it atleast 5 that will accept it) as i am not sure about it and dont wanna carry too much cash with me keeping in mind for refilling the tank as and when required. Do share your thoughts and experiences brothers!!

| Senior - BHPian | Hi, I think the pumps at most towns would accept cards but in any case you would not require more than 2-2.5 full tanks I think. Also its always a good idea to carry 5-10k in cash when embarking on a long road trip. Never know when you may need it. Viper

hi i just travelled from belgaum to bombay, the roads are absolutely fantastic till pune . u get to face some traffic in pune . from belgaum to pune u would approx take 5 hrs. u could eat at all A1 Plaza's from Reliance . Many petrol Pumps Accept Credit Cards. try to fill on the highway i dont know why petrol is cheaper by approx a rupee. u can stop at a place called Karad after kolhapur. two hotels that are good there one Sangam( good food) and the other Pankaj ( Only Veg) but u need to take care of the overbridges built u hve to go down to enter the city. u can practically drive at + 120 on the roads. from belgaum to Bombay. thanks to 4 laning of the roads.
