Mannuthy to Palakkad NH47 is closed for traffic from 8pm till next day morning everyday to enable road works. So might be a good idea to take the alternate route via Shoranur-Palakkad(which would have heavy traffic as all the heavy vehicles would now go via this route)or else via Pazhayannur-Alathur-Kollengode-Pollachi-Palladam-Kangayam-Perundurai-NH47 route.

Sorry I do not have the current traffic scenario on this route as the night closure has just begun. The road is as wide as a normal 4 lane so you should be ok,just that speeds could be low.

Dear Ranjit,

Sorry to update about my trip back to Mumbai.
I had to cancel the road trip in the last minute as I got a cold/fever, thanks to the rain.

So left the vehicle at my home and caught a flight back to Mumbai.

Now I have to find some holidays again to go back and bring the vehicle.

Thanks
bbhavan.

Dear friends,

Now the time has come to bring the vehicle back to Mumbai. I am planning to do it during the Onam vacation (not for us, but for Keralites).

As decided earlier, the route will be via Cochin-Shorannur-Palaghat-Salem-Bangalore-Pune -Mumbai.

I am planning to have a night halt in between. Where should I take this?
Probably it should be between Hubli and Bangalore.

Any suggestions for a good decent hotel?

regards,

bbhavn.

Kochi-Trichur-Wadakkancherry-Pazhyanur-Alathur-Kollengode-Pollachi-Palladam-Kangeyam-Perundurai-Salem-Bangalore-Mumbai

If you can push till Tumkur on Day 1, I would say that would be an ideal break.

Naveen Regency is a good place.

Why is this much deviation?

Nh47 after Palakkad is not in good condition?

I have been to this road up to Pollachi, earlier, but the stretch in Kerala was very narrow.

So I am doubtful about even reaching Bangalore before the sunset

p.s.

Is it Wadakkancherry? that means i have to go to further north of Thrissur and then come back to Pollachi road?

One word: Avoid this stretch. Trichur-Kuthiran-Palakkad-Walayar-CBE is quite bad.

The route via Kollengode-Pollachi is very good though narrow. But its fully stress free (just one hassle to cross Pollachi.)

Dear ampere,

In the above scenario, will it be prudent to check the Nh17 option till ankola and then Nh4 via Hubli ?

Thats like taking on another evil in order to avoid one! No way. Stick to 4-lane sir! Gives you very good mobility.

If you want to try a different route, then you can try the route via Mysore and avoid Bangalore.

Trichur-Wadakkanchery-Kollengode-Pollachi-Palldam-Avinashi (or Karumathampatti)-Annur-Sathyamangalam-Chamarajanagar-Mysore-Srirangapatna-Pandavpura-Nagamangala-Nellegere-Turuvekere-Huliyar-Hiriyur.

At Hiriyur you join 4-lane. This is end to end good roads. You can break at Chitradurga for the day. It also has a Naveen Regency.

Route Link

You can also drive to Mysore via Nilambur, but I think Sathyamangalam would be a better option.

Well.then it is better to face the main devil himself .
I thought of this NH17 as Google showed it as 250km shorter than Bangalore route.

I know the strain of this long drive through Kerala !!

By the way Mysore-Hiriyur is a very nice with low traffic. I was on the Mysore-Nagamangala-Nellegere stretch last week. Very peaceful and a soothing drive it was

Now I am thinking this actually might turn out to be a better option. Because of lower distance you can drive up to Chitradurga on Day 1 ! While when going via Bangalore you have to cover Krishnagiri-Bangalore and Bangalore Tumkur.

And since the roads via Mysore-Hiriyur are good, you can make good progress too.

Let me announce my pleasant return trip from Kerala last week.

I followed the Kochi-Trichur-Wadakkancherry-Pazhyanur-Alathur-Kollengode-Pollachi-Palladam-Kangeyam-Perundurai-Salem-Bangalore-Mumbai route as suggested by Ampere and other bhpians in this forum.

Left my home at 5.30 in the morning on Tuesday. Reached the NH47 just after perundurai at about 1.30pm. After that it is 4 lane road all through till Mumbai.

Reached Tumkur at 7.30pm. Got lot of traffic block in the Hosur area and diversions in the krishnagiri sector.

Stayed at Tumkur. Left at 7.30 in the morning and reached home at 11.30 in the night. The entire stretch was stress free except at Pune bye pass road where lot of road widening activities were going on.
Feared of blocks in Mumbai due to the last day of the Ganeshotsav festival, but luckily there was no such issue.

Only blip in the entire drive was at Tumkur, where i got my front tyre punctured. It was noticed when I entered an Indianoil petrol pump, the first after the end of the NICE road. The front tyre was completely flat and surprised how I didn't came to know about that while driving.

It was my first experience with a punctured tyre.
The nice guys at the pump helped me in changing to the spare tyre.

Otherwise the journey was fine and now looking forward to plan the next trip

Hello BHPians,
Planning for a Bangalore - Kochi drive on the 12th of Oct. What would you all suggest if I am constrained to leave Bangalore only around 1.00 PM?What should I be prepared for, considering half the journey could be night driving?
