Yes it should be Erode and then Avinashi. The Bhavani Mettur road is very much safe in the nights. I always used to take that road in the nights.

Hi aditya.86,

> Yes it should be Erode and then Avinashi.

That should have been the sequence with Perundurai in between.

> The Bhavani Mettur road is very much safe in the nights. I always used to
> take that road in the nights.

How come nobody takes the Bhavani - Sankari - Thoppur - Salem NH47 route?

I have always done that whenever I have gone to Bangalore by road.

Why do you need to take the detour to Erode? There is no need to touch Erode. It is just Bhavani - Avanashi - Erode. You just need to follow the NH. Coming via Erode will add another 24km.

That Avinashi - Erode combination does not seem to be correct.

Should it not be Erode - Avinashi?
My bad...
It's Erode - Avinashi.

I have never tried that route at night. Next time will give it try.
Thanks for the update.

My friends left early this morning to B'lore, and they took the coimbatore route. There was a suggestion of trying the nilambur route. But decided to take this. Hopefully tomorrow morning they'll call in to say how the road was.
Thanks for all inputs and advice.

Thopppur comes between Salem & Dharmapuri, I assume you are referring to the Bhavani - Sankari - Salem which is the regular NH47 route.

Or are you referring to the Bhavani - Sankari - Omalur - Thoppur route, in which the Sankari - Omalur stretch is through a narrow road. If you want to use the NH47, then the route to take is Coimbatore - Avinashi - Perundurai - Bhavani - from here go onto Mettur instead of continuing on the NH upto Sankari. From Mettur you come to Thoppur via Mecheri, this would save you the trouble of going to Salem and then coming back to Thoppur.

Cheers

Hi Srikanth,

> Thopppur comes between Salem & Dharmapuri,

Thank you for the correction. Sorry folks.

> I assume you are referring > to the Bhavani - Sankari - Salem which is the

Yes, this is what I meant. My brother in law's village is actually on the Bhavani Mettur stretch! And Sister's house is in Erode!

@Path_Finder:

I was in fact wondering why Erode was touched and hence the correction and query in my post.

There are lot of updates on this thread for the month of October. End of December is almost 2 months away and a lot can change with respect to condition of roads.

You better do a check couple of days before your trip.

Regards

There are multiple routes to reach TVM from BLR. So it depends on which one you want to take.

1. BLR - Salem - Coimbatore - Trichur - EKM - TVM
2. BLR - Mysore - Calicut - Trichur - EKM - TVM
3. BLR - Salem - Madurai - Thirunelveli - TVM

More experienced bhp-ians can give more options and details.

Default Snowhite is bored! Need help in deciding route.

Snowhite is lil bored and its time to take her for a deserving drive. Also i have to attend a function in Trivandrum next week, so thought of driving down this weekend. Roam around TVM for 3-4 days and return next week middle.

Need update and route info for:

Onward: Drive from BLR to TVM, since am planning on a 1 day drive thinking of taking TN roads instead of struggling with KL traffic. BLR - Salem - Madurai - Thirunelveli - TVM

So guide me from BLR to TVM, route with major stop over points suitable for break fast, lunch and toilet facilities please. Plan is to leave early by 530-600 am from BLR.

Return: Onward journey experience will decide if i drive straight back the same route, or else i will take a break in Cochin and then drive back to BLR from there. So update on road condition from TVM to Bhavani via Palakad.
