Hudhud affected only the north east districts of AP. Chennai - Hyderabad route leaves the coastal area at Medarametla near Ongole. The cyclone did not touch this Chennai - Medarametla stretch at all. It should be a decent drive for your friend.

However, this being the monsoon season in South Coastal AP, expect rain throughout the journey.

Regards
Venu

Did this stretch to Hyd on 21st and back on 28th Oct.

Road condition due to 'Hudhud', is not effected much luckily.

Excluding the village intersections, rest all the roads are were very good.

Small patches near Miryalguda, Dachepalli, Pidugurallu and Addanki were as bad as they were earlier. No major improvements.

Hi Venuvedam,
Thanks for the info. Will try this out next time in Dec.
We had packed our food this time.

Found Hotel Amaravati near Ongole for a good quick break while coming back.

Regards,
Maverick79.

I left my home on the edge of ORR at around 7:10 AM. I would recommend the time because of the heavy mist/fog all along the route.

Took a right at Narketpally to get on the Miryalaguda road.
Some sections have two lane, most of it (90%+) is four lane divided.
Less than 1% is bad road quality.

Crossed Ongole at around 11:20 AM.
First stop at a HP bunk where I topped up my fuel tank.

The approach towards Redhills has horrible roads. Especially an area called Panjetty near Ponneri.
Crossed Redhill reservoir at around 3:10 PM.

I took the Chennai bypass that has one of the craziest surfaces.
Got off at Porur at around 4:10 PM.
Reached home in Adyar at 4:40 PM.

Total time was 9 hours and 30 mins for approx 670 kms.

9 hours and 30 mins is a good time to cover approx 670 kms. Can you please update on the hotels between Narketpalli and Addanki? Few months back, I have seen many of them coming up, not sure it they are operational now.

JoseVijay:

I don't stop for anything.
Except fuel. So no clue about these as I don't pay attention to them either.
I had packed some sandwiches and a couple of snacks.

My return trip is different.

I have to attend a wedding reception in Ananthapur at noon.
The route predicted by google is via Kadiri.

Anyone has feedback on this?
I had a friend recently do this stretch and her feedback was quite positive.

Anathapur to Hyderabad is a no brainer.

My return trip plan was dropped and I came back in the same route.

Left home in Adyar at 8:15 AM.
I think Sunday is bad day for this trip. There was a LOT of traffic. Mostly fast but there were quite a few weekend warriors.

When I entered Addanki I saw a small restaurant on the other side serving Biryani.

Rs 60 for hot Chicken Biryani. It was a good serving and had accompaniments as well.
Not much place to sit and I don't think its very family friendly. But they were doing very brisk business.

Having eaten hot biryani the tiredness set in and I had to stop for 15 mins and take a short power nap.

There are small restaurants mushrooming all over the route. Found another one on the left hand side about 3 kms before Piduguralla.

Apologies Arun. I took that as Hyderabad-Bangalore since you are from Bangalore and wondered why you even want to stop for breakfast .

Not sure what route you will be taking (Ongole?) but I recall that Ongole has quite a good restaurants that can cater to your breakfast needs.

You might encounter significant fog and mist along the way at that time.

Your best bet is the bunch of restaurants that come up just before the Narketpally turning on the other side of the road.

Be careful of people plucking flowers from the divider on ORR. With no one to take care the plants have grown wild and they hide these people.

No problem, I guessed it . With two kids in tow a pit stop becomes mandatory

The rivera restaurant at Narketpalli junction doesnot open till 7am. As bblost mentioned it would be better to start little late due to the Foggy conditions. If you continue with the 4 am start you might some thing to eat in small eateries on the road side all along the route till Ongole. I was told by my friend that there are good places to eat if we enter Ongole and it will not take a lot of time to get in and get out. Not sure though.
