Default Bangalore to Namakkal/Trichy - Route

Hi,

I am planning to make a visit to Namakkal Anjaneyar temple during the weekend of May 22/23/24. I would like to know the options to stay at Namakkal and to visit near by places if any.

Can we also make a visit to Trichy? Not sure the distance.
If we visit Trichy, can any of BHPians guide me for good temples to visit.

Also, let me know the stay options at Trichy as well.

My parents also would be travelling along with my family.

Please suggest.

Distance that you asked would be 90-96 kms. That is what the ODO read.

About BLR to Namkkal take the usual GQ:
BLR - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Salem - Namakkal.

I heard about SRM Hotel from quite a lot of folks in Trichy.

SRM is a smashing place. I was very impressed. For about 2800 per day, I could never imagine the comforts they provided. Its called Royal Southern.

They have their own Hotel Mgmt. institute and hence can afford lower rates, as the students directly find way into the hotel. When I mean lower rates, it may be high by other's standards. But what I mean is that for the infrastructure they have, such a place in a metro would cost three times easily. Very much recommended. Route details you can find in the other thread as indicated in the previous post.

Temples to visit: Srirangam and Rock Fort. You can also head to Tanjore (50 Km and bad roads), but really worth the visit.

Here is a snap of the place.

Having gone to Namakkal, you can visit Trichy, via Musiri & Kulithalai on SH & NH 67. The route is Namakkal>SH>Musiri>Take right turn, cross Cauvery River and then, take left turn>Kulithalai>NH 67>Trichy. Another option is to continue straight at Musiri till Trichy. Both SH & NH 67 run on left and right bank of Cauvery River respectively. You can choose either of these option. The distance is around 90 km.

Trichy has many temples to visit. However, the important ones are Sri Rangam Ranganathaswamy Temple, Malaikkottai Pillayar Temple, Vayalur Murugan Temple, etc.

I stayed at Hotel Aanand, no.1 VOC Road, Trichy 620 001 [Phone: 0431-2415545. Mobile: 098430 15219], a few years back. It is a good budget hotel with tariff ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 1000. It is located near Trichy Railway Junction. But, a word of caution: this place is always full. Another advantage is, it has ample exclusive car-parking facility. There are many good eating places in and around Trichy Junction.

From Trichy, I have two options to visit other places.

1. Tanjavur/Kumbakonam
2. Pillayarpatti/Madurai

I have 3 days for the plan.

Day1:
Namakkal & Trichy

Day 2:
Karaikudi/Madurai
OR
Tanjavur/Kumbakonam

Day 3:
Return to Bangy

I have already booked Hotel Ramyas, Trichy.

Please suggest.

Tanjavur will be mostly temple visits - go there if you are into it (with parents, reckon they will appreciate it).

Madurai - apart from Meenakshi Temple, the place has some very neat eat outs!

And for Namakkal - Trichy, go straight thru Musiri; do not take the bridge across Cauvery and go thru Kulithalai; the road construction is going on and it is a total mess.

I would say go to Madurai. You can visit Pilliarpatti and also Azhagar temple along with the regular.
As already indicated before, food would be yummy!

Plus it also gives a clean way to come back to BLR. The glorius NH7 all the way.

Is the trichy tanjore road still a mess ?

I've been planning to do tanjore for quite sometime now, but the road conditions are holding me back.

My knowledge is quite old. It was a mess then. Even recently I saw in the forum, folks saying it was pretty bad.

@ampere & @happywheels:
Thanks for suggestions.

How is the road condition from Trichy to Karaikudi and then to Madurai?
Yes, Madurai seems to be better option.

Which are good hotels to eat in Madurai and Trichy?

The regular route from Trichy to Madurai is via NH45B, which is very good. Not sure of the Karaikudi route. It would be quite a deviation for a three day plan.

@SDP: TRY - Tanjore is ~75% complete, but do be careful of diversions. But it is way better than it was before.

@BlackStallion: Why Karaikudi? The regular route will be thru Viralimalai - Mellur onto Maduira (and with most of the 4 laning done now, it is a dream!)

For that take NH210/NH226 to Tiruppattur and take diversion to Pillayarpatti.
To go to Madurai, take the state highway which connects 226 to 45B.
(I think its called the Madurai Tiruppattur road).

You dont need to go to Karaikudi for this.

Yes I would suggest, do visit that temple.
Its beautiful and worth it.

PS: I think you wanted to do Trichy first and then go to Madurai via Pillayarpatti, before returning to BLR.
