| Thanks Aza , here is the road report. We started our journey at 0710 hrs from Mumbai on 28 Sep from Colaba The Milestone boards, which NHAI has really put are real excellent ones, at short intervals giving you the confidence that you are on the right route. Our Breakfast halt was at Silver miles, real good service, excellent washrooms (one hardly finds good washrooms on the way) and a decent CD shop, incase you have forgotten to carry with you. |

| Ok, after all the map reading and HV Kumar's log(of immense help), we continued on our path. The roads from Virar to Surat are quite decent/ except for the interim traffic like autos, two wheelers etc which travel in the right lane thus restricting your speed. Surat to vadodara became better with lesser traffic and better finish roads. Thus starting at 0710, we reached vadodara at 1330, covering a distance of 410 kms. |

| We reached Ahemdabad in the night taking 55 mins from vadodara. Here we did our night halt. Thereafter , we started at 0600 hrs from ahemdabad on 29 Sep. We reached Himmat nagar by 0700 hrs covering a distance of 82 kms and at 0740 we entered Rajasthan. The roads till Shamlaji were curvy. One has to be careful at high speeds, which one can easily do as the roads are excellent with minimal traffic. One piece of advice: Don't give in to temptations. Our first halt was at Hotel Dream view, just short of Udaipur Bypass. 15 kms from here Udaipur bypass starts, which is a two lane road approx 10 kms long. Then comes a traffic light, from here we took a right following the board for Chittorgarh. Roads got better and better from here. Any slow patches can be made up on the road from Chittorgarh to Jaipur. We took our lunch break along with fuel top up at BPCL petrol pump at 1100 hrs (130 kms from the Udaipur bypass turn). The food was decent over here along with the fast service. We commenced our journey after 45 mins and crossed Jaipur bypass and took our tea break along with fuel top up at HPCL petrol pump at 1520 kms hrs after covering a distance of 300 kms.( We encountered some city traffic as we were approaching Jaipur Bypass). The tea was ok but mixed pakodas are strongly recommended . Our main intent of taking halts was loking for decent rest rooms. One can get excellent dhaba food , especially in Rajasthan but they don't have good rest rooms. Therfore all our food/ fuel halts were coupled with the places, where there were decent rest rooms.Journey post Jaipur was not on the fast track as there was heavy traffic and chaotic traffic. We reached Gurgaon at 1900 hrs and it took us almost 01 hr to cross Gurgaon. And finally we were at out destination NOIDA at 2100 hrs after covering a distance of 1495 kms. PS: Special thanks to my SILs who maintained a good log, did the navigation and photohraphy till Ahemdabad. |

| Hi, I have done Mumbai-Delhi 5-6 times in about 3 years... The route is much better now and very fast.. Usually I leave mumbai by 6:30 AM, halt for Breakffast at abt 8:30-9:00 at Kamat. I do a night halt at Ratnagiri (RTDC Hotel Close to Rajasthan-Gujrat Border) or at hotels just before Udaipur by 7-8PM.. Leave again by 6:30 and reach Delhi by 3-4 PM... While returning Normally I take night halt at himmat nagar and reach Mumbai by evening...

| I am leaving Pune for Delhi tomorrow and could use some advice. Can someone suggest decent budget hotels close between Ahmedabad and Udaipura and then between Jaipur and Delhi? I want to avoid entering ANY of the cities enroute and would prefer a highway side hotel.

| Hi Cougar, I did Mumbai Delhi on Dec 2008 and did the night halt at Sneh Resort which is on the NH8 itself just about 8-10 KM before Udaipur. It did cost me about Rs.2500 for 3 pax including food. This is a nice place to relax after a day long drive. I started next morning at 10.30am from Udaipur and reached Gurgaon Toll Plaza by 9.30pm Hope this will help. | I, along with two other friends, completed a trip from Delhi to Mumbai via Agra, Gwalior, Guna, Indore, Mandu, Dhule and Nasik covering a distance of ~1,600kms over 5 days with ample sightseeing thrown in! It was an awesome experience which went through smoothly, mainly due to our preparedness. I would like to thank everyone on this forum who helped me in the planning - right from reviewing road conditions, suggesting the itinerary, helping with hotel info for smaller towns, etc. I will share a travelogue and log shortly...as well as some pictures...just as I find some time to pen down my thoughts. A special mention for MP roads as well. Their condition was an eye-opener! I would characterize 70% roads as good to extremely good (esp. sections around Indore and Gwalior) and only 30% had horrific potholes and speeds of less than 50kmph. I hope the conditions in the eastern half of MP are as good...coz that is likely to be my next pit stop ! ![]() Thank you all once again! |

| I am in the middle of my own Delhi to Pune trip via MP with a break in between at a forest ahead of Gwalior. Road was 4 laned heaven till a point about 20 kms before Gwalior. After that the road is 2 laned and of acceptable quality. Very little potholes etc. From Gwalior to Shivpuri, road passed through some very nice terrain with greenery all around. The bigger problem is the never ending stream of trucks plying the route both ways. I chose to play safe and drive at a sedate 53kph average through all of today. Tomorrow I plan to do Guna-Indore-Dhule and then Dhule-Shirdi-Aurangabad-Nagar-Pune on Sat.
