| NH8 from Bombay to Baroda, NE1 (expressway) from Baroda to Ahmedabad, NH8 from Ahmedabad to Udaipur, GQ road from Udaipur to Kishangarh via Chittorgarh and Bhilwara, and NH8 from there on via Jaipur. Road is double road all the way except for a small stretch approaching Chittorgarh town. Road cxonditions are fantastic barring the Surat-Baroda stretch where road widening/ flyover construction work is on, meaning traffic jams at specifc points (Surat bypass, Ankleshwar town, Baroda bypass) and slower speeds. Facilities are fantastic, petrol stations, food and other facilities. My best speed from Bombay to Delhi (leaving 3 am) is 17 hours non-stop. If you wish to avoid night driving and and are a moderate driver with food halts en route, assume that you could do Bombay-Udaipur comfortably on Day 1 (Udaipur pereferred for better hotel choices) and Day 2 will see you comfortably in Delhi by late afternoon. gd1418, while you suggestion is all the way on NH8, the GQ route from Udaipur to Kishangarh viua Chittorgarh and Bhilwara is faster and better compared to teh conventional NH8 option via Bhim, Beawar and Ajmer. All major and minor towns are bypassed, except a small portion (happily, no congestion) of Chittrgarh town. Of special note are the Ahmedabad bypasses (turn off before the end of expressway into Sardar Patel Ring Road) and teh Jaipur bypass, both of which give you an extra 30-60 minutes. Have all details - distances, petrol stations, hotels, etc - can PM it to you. Also have GPS point references for the entire route.

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | HV - A friend is going on a drive soon to Mumbai, do you think that if he makes good progress (he intends to start at 4 am) it's possible for him to make Ahemdabad comfortably on day 1?? Reason is that ways he cover a large portion of the drive on day 1 itself & doesn't need to stress himself on day 2? Also, Ahemdabad was chosen because I called up a few friends & they said that rather than stopping at Gandhinagar stop at Ahemdabad for better hotels & ease of finding them near the highway itself.

| Senior - BHPian | Ishaan, if your friend leaves at 4 am and maintains good speed with less stopovers, he can make it to Ahmedabad on day 1 by evening. Quote:

Your friend, can easily do delhi to Baroda on day1. if he is leaving at 4am!! We used to do delhi-surat in the '80s on day1, and since then cars are faster and roads are better! leaving at 4am he would have touched Ajmer by 7.30, thats before traffic really starts!! and then a big breakfast and refuel and off to udaipur, go on and late lunch and refuel at himmatnagar. Late tea at baroda around 7pm and off to surat if they want to stop over the night, or thru to Mumbai by 12 midnight latest!! Sorry, for all this, But which car? this will decide surat stop or straight to Mumbai. The roads by more or less very good except for small stretches still to be done up.

| "good speed with less stopovers" he should be at Baroda!! by evening. totall distance is about 1350/1400kms to mumbai, and ahmedabad[bypass] should be only 750kms from delhi, and this should take 11 hours with stopovers, so by 3pm he would be passing, ahmedabad bypass. Going on to Surat in current circumstances is difficult because of teh road widening/ flyover construction work on Baroda bypass and Baroda-Surat road. You can easily burn up an extra 1-2 hours in this rote tahnks to traffic jams. or instance, pne of our members Ramky drove down today morning (right now in tarnsit) from Ahmedabad to Bombay and he reported that he took 5 hours to reach Surat from Ahmedabad ( a journy optimally done in 2.5/3 hours by a guy like Ramky who drives fast), and he had to ride a lot of teh road shoulders to meet teh mile-long truck jams. For those who wish to halt near Ahmedabad, you can stay at Hotel Anjali which is short of the Gandhinagar turn off on NH8, just before teh Ring Road.

| And my optimal time (very fast, non-stop) from Ahmedabad to Delhi is 10.5 hours.

| BHPian | I did a similar drive alone in April 07 leaving Delhi at 5:30 am, Lunch at Udaipur 3:00 pm and Ahmedabad 7:00 pm - Night Halt. Left Ahmadabat at 9:00 am next day and was in Pune at 8:00 pm the same night via Mumbai. Roads are good, Stuck to Relience for fuel and no hard pushing of the car.

it will not be possible to cover on single day unless there are 2 drivers. and roads are not as good as you think because there is 8 lane work in progress from baroda to bharuch. If leaves from delhi at 4 a.m. should have to cross baroda to surat between 4-8 pm, there will be heavy traffic at this time, may be will need 1 or 2 hours to cross 3 surat chokdis.he he My two cents.

Halted there for the night, and continued to delhi the next day morning and reached delhi by 7:00 P.M. more info - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...f-account.html (Mumbai–Gurgaon–Agra–Ranthombore–Mumbai-A brief Account)
