I agree with most people. Home stay is the best option of accommodation in Coorg. I once stayed at Silver Brook Estate and it is awesome.

Unfortunately we went there in Aug and it was raining all the time. Couldnt explore anything at all.

The best staying option is the homestays. We stayed at Kedakal estate that was No. 2 on tripadvisor at that time. They are good and recommended (they have a usable swimming pool and Quad bikes as well) The food in that part of Karnataka is simply awesome! Much much better than anything you have in Bangalore! The food prepared by our hosts at Kedakal is the best I have tasted outside of my home!
I will go against this. I went in August, but I went alone. Took a 100cc bike on rent from madikeri and went out to a different place everyday. It was gorgeous. It would rain, the entire place would be glistening green, I would stop for pondi curry and rice, ride out a little bit more, have some coffee. Getting wet with abandon, and riding with a wet t shirt, and it drying on you with time. Spicy food in nice, coldish weather.

If I had to do it again, the only difference will be that I will just not base myself inside madikeri town, but at a homestay.

+1 to Manolin. Coorg during monsoon is stunningly beautiful, so much that I do not go there during any other time. But you need to be ready to get drenched, get surprised by quick weather changes and appreciate poetry in relentless rain. The mist, the clouds moving in a great hurry, muddy colored water streams, numerous waterfalls, occasional appearance of the sun as if not miss out the charm! Aha! can't wait for Aug. Definitely not a family vacation time.

If you are alone on a bike or even with friends then its quite nice to do all this. But if you have a family and kid(s) then its not possible/advisable.

Also during monsoon you have some strange company in the greens! One evening while having dinner saw a very very dangerous looking insect on the wall curtain there. From its color (blood red) I am sure it was poisonous and it was huge in size! We were literally scared to go outside at night after seeing that (we went as a group of two families having a small kid each). Our host also told us that it was not uncommon to have snakes come out in those parts at times. We wanted to trek in the coffee plantation but it wasnt possible because of persistent rains!

The coffee flowered ten days ago. Yes, it looks lovely when it flowers. If you really want to experience rains then you should go in June - August. Else the best time is Sep - Mar.

I am planning to visit Coorg for 4 days (Apr 28th - May 1st) along with 5-6 friends. Looking for advice on good, reasonably priced accommodation (preferably homestay). PM'ed PrinceZahed, but haven't yet received response. As the D-day is very close, I would like to nail this down soon.

We are planning to visit Coorg on 18, 19 & 20th of May. I am planning to stay in Palace Estate. What kind of weather can we expect in Coorg during these days?
Any recommendations on places to visit near Palace Estate, Kakkabe except Nalkad palace?

You can also may be try Palace Estate, its around 35kms from madikeri.
I had been there last year and will be also going there this year. This place is really good, view from the home stay is awesome and they serve good authentic home made coorgi food.

HomeStay in Coorg, Palace Estate
