Default Chennai - Bangalore - Coorg

I am planning to drive from Chennai to Coorg. Would like to know how to get into Bangalore - Mysore highway without going inside of Bangalore and also
how much time and KM for each sector ...
Chennai - Bangalore
Bangalore - Srirangapatinam
Srirangapatinam - Coorg

Thanks

Chennai - blr shud take you around 5hrs.
After getting into Blr, past the electronics city, take the ring road to mysore. So you need not get into Blr city.

Blr - Srirangapatinam shuld probably take you 2.5 hrs.
I think coorg is approx 100 kms from there.

Right after Electronics City, you can get onto BMIC and drive towards the bannerghatta end. At Bannerghatta you'll have to get off the road and join it again on the other side that leads towards Mysore road. The bridge there is not complete. There's a bit of offroading involved, but nothing significant for your car as the area has been flattened as compared to before when it was a nightmare. Other than that bit, BMIC is a beauty. Good for speed testing . Once you are on the other stretch, its quite easy... It'll lead you straight to mysore road.

Hey, he will surely get confused where all the turns he has to take as the road is still not complete and he has to take around 3 deviations (one from Hosur road to get into BMIC, another from BMIC to get in to Bennarghatta road and from Bennarghatta road again to connect to BMIC road. Lets not confuse him.

Simple suggestion from Bangalore, take the Mysore road and follow up till the end. It reaches Mysore. On the way you will also get Srirangpatnam. From Mysore to Coorg it will be 2.5 hrs. Enjoy the drive and your stay.

VMG,
Pls follow the Straight Mysore Road, Take left from Silk Board. BMIC can get confusing as well but you can give a try as the directions given by ROC

Chennai outskirts - ECity - 5 hours (4 hours if you do nonstop)
Blr(Ecity) - Mysore Road - 1.5 hours
Mysore Road - Srirangapatnam turn - 1.5-2 hours (if you do nonstop)
Srirangapatnam turn - hotel East End(Coorg) - 3 hours min (nonstop, time also depends upon whether u take via Kushalnagar or via Virajpet)

Hey, Are you joking?
Forget about Blr - Mysore, it will take 1.5 hours from Blr (Electronic City) to Blr (Mysore Road)

Abhi

Mods pls move this thread out of travelogues to Route/Travel Query section

I recently made a trip from Chennai to Coorg on January 2008.

The Chennai - Bangalore nh46 is a beauty but there will not be much restaurants in this road. After Krishnagiri, before Hosur, you will get an A1 Plaza which is good.

After Hosur, when you keep travelling on towards Bangalore, around 10 KMS from narayana Hridayala (which is also on the Hosur Bangalore road), there is a Metro highway which is being built. Jus' @ the starting of that you get an exit (not named yet) on the left hand side. Jus' get on to that exit and it will lead you towards the Bannerghatta end enroute to Mysore.

At Bannerghatta you'll have to get off the road and join it again on the other side that leads towards Mysore road. The bridge there is not complete. There's a bit of offroading involved but thats jus' about 2-3 kms, but nothing significant for your car as the area has been flattened as compared to before when it was a nightmare. Once you are on the other stretch, its quite easy... It'll lead you straight to mysore road.

Till Srirangapatnam the road is a beauty. After that once you take the right to Madikeri, you will have 4 way highway for around 20 KMS after that its a 3 way highway (no median in between).

Due to rains and due to the road relaying work going on , the last 50 KMS stretch to Madikeri is really bad. The strain for the last 50 KMS is more than the strain taken on the first 550 KMS. From mysore, it took me around 4 hours to reach Madikeri.

It took us around 11 hours to cover the whole stretch.

Have fun.

Regards
Murali

why does this read very very similar to an earlier post by reignofchaos:

Was that a quote gone wrong???

I agree with snaronikar, its better to give the straight drive, instead of the new road which can be confusing.

Yeah, provided you were traveling in a VIP escort with all traffic junctions blocked for you to fly thru... apart from that I find no way! Getting from Bangalore EC to Silk Board flyover itself take 1hr!!!

Hi,

If you will be passing through Bangalore anytime between 8 AM and 8 PM, then taking the NICE road will be ideal. It will save you a lot of time. Let me try and give you directions -

After you pass Narayana Hrudayalaya which comes on your left about 10 KMs after crossing into Karnataka, watch out for Electronics City first gate, after about 4-5- kms, also on your left. You will find NTTF board. Drive further down Hosur Road. After passing a pyramid shaped office building of Infosys, you will come to the second gate of Electronics City - again on your left. Further ahead, you must be able to see a road over bridge. At the second gate, get on to the service road and take the ramp up to the NICE road. Drive down this world class road for the next 10 kms. You will find a mud road leading off on the right hand side. This is after the last road over bridge across the NICE road on this stretch.

Follow this mud road and you will reach a T junction after 500 mtrs. Take a left turn there and keep following this road for the next kilometer or so. You will pass by a huge mosque type building on your right and a lake on your left. After passing these, you will reach Bannerghatta road. At this junction, take a left turn and drive down Bannerghatta road for a kilometer. Once again you will find a mud road leading off from your right. Take this road and you will be back on NICE road.

The next major intersection will be Kanakpura Road. The bridge here is not complete either. You will need to take the ramp down to Kanakpura road, cut across and take the ramp back on to nice road. From there it is just a straight dive to Mysore road.

At Mysore road junction, you will once again need to take the ramp down and turn left to head towards Mysore.

The total time taken from Electronics City to Mysore road would be less than an hour as compared to 1.5 to 2 hours required, if you take the silk board route.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Rajan

^^Last time I asked my passenger to time the run and I did chennai outskirts to hosur in 2hrs 45mins (~310 km). From there getting into bangalore took another 2 hours as traffic in E-City was terrible. If the traffic wasn't that bad, its quite easy to do chennai-blore in 4 hours.
