Cool Alternative Holiday/Resort choices

I am in search of an alternate vacation experience. Something more interesting than just sight seeing. When we did the trekking vacation at Sikkim (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...ngri-trek.html (Few days close to Heaven: The Dzongri Trek)), the feeling of fulfillment that gave was just unbelievable. Not to mention I lost nearly 5-6Kgs in 6 days.

This is what I have in mind. Both my wife and I have great interest in horse-riding, we have done the usual tame rides on horses at tourist places. But we want to really learn, want to trot and advance to full gallop. Is there some resort or vacation place where we can spend one full week doing nothing but learning horse riding with proper instruction?

Well, 1-2 hour a day courses won't do. What do we do during the rest of the day?

Hmm well point noted. Lots of horses in Matheran too but i doubt they do something like teaching you to ride and all.

There are quite a few riding schools in Bangalore. May be you'd want to explore some options here.

Great choice Samurai! Your definately going to love horse riding.
Definitely wayy better than just sight seeing (my personal opinion)

Seems like you will be taking a week off for this.
There is a place called Japalook or similar near Talegaon (which is near Pune) they have package on daily basis plus they also have accommodation.
Although I haven't been to this place personally but my friends who have visited had very nice experience.
There is also another riding school near military area, but they have horse riding classes on monthly basis and have no facilities for accommodation.

Do remember that horse-riding "is" very difficult than it seems. Those horse rides at tourist places is nothing as those horses are trained to do the round on their own. Ridding the horse is the real game.
But be ready to fall down a lot, having every bone in your body shaken and your hands getting multiple cuts from leather straps (been there, done that)

You forgot about Canter in-between
It will take some time to advance to full gallop. But its 100% worth it.

The website link in that post is incorrect. Here's the correct link - Japalouppe Equestrian Center - Horse Riding School, Talegaon

Do meet up with Pune boys if you plan to do this. Shrivz can get you more info since Japalouppe is owned by a very close friend of his.

Hey, thanks guys. Now we are getting somewhere.

The Karnataka Horse Safari is an interesting concept, but the stress is on sight seeing rather than riding. Besides, it is too long.

But the Japalouppe site looks very interesting, very professional.

Not very different from martial arts, is it?

I think I'll make further enquiries there. I'll have to wait until April so that my son will be free from school. I think Pune will be a 700Kms drive for me.
