Default Advise needed for Rajasthan Road trip

Hi,

Am planning a road trip from Bangalore to Rajasthan in my friend's Scorpio. Plan is contained in the excel attachment.

Here's some info on the group:

1. Two of us driving till Pune. 3 Pune to Bombay. 4 Bombay to Udaipur.
5 Post Udaipur till Jaipur. 4 till Jodhpur. 3 from Jodhpur to Bangalore.
2. All can drive and some have done long distance driving incl the two of us from Bangalore.
3. All guy gang average age around 30 yrs.

Need advice on following:

1. How are these roads? Are these the best routes?
2. Is this realistic, or are we stretching things too far?
3. Any inputs on places to stay and eat at each destination?
4. Any places you think we should add/skip?
5. Any other advise. Dos and don'ts?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would prefer to reroute the trip as follows:
Bangalore-Pune-Ahmedabad-Jaisalmer-Bikaner-Jaipur-Ajmer-Jodhpur-Mt Abu-Udaipur-Bombay-Bangalore.

Please follow the following guide to bypass Bombay, it should take you 60 minutes to cover 35 kms:
HOW TO BYPASS BOMBAY via New Bombay - from South side - hvkumar | Google Groups

Travel from Udaipur to Indore - all routes are a disaster!
Travelling via Solapur and Hospet are best avoided, stick to the same route for return.

In any case, you can get some guidance from a route plan I made for someone from Bombay:

Thanks Kumar, any idea about roads arround Mt Abu/Jaisalmer/Bikaner/Jaipur?

I have been to all these places but in train, so this will be a different experience all togather.

Any specific reason for spending 1 full day in Ajmer? IMO if you reach Ajmer by 0900hrs you can finish the Dargah and Pushkar by 1200 Noon and then proceed to Jaipur and reach Jaipur latest by 1500 hrs.

Untill ofcourse you want to spend some time by the Pushkar lake!!

I was a regular visitor of the dargah when I was in Delhi(2000 - 2007), going there after 3 long years so want to spend some time there,I love this place(typical Human), Puskar does not really excite me. No other reason.

why don't you spend some time in Chittor fort while going to Ajmer from Udaipur? A little dive in history with Maharana Pratap.

Been to Chittor, anyways I have to relook at the map again as the routes will change, and day plannings are also going to change, so it might come into the plan.

Any idea if Ahmedabad & Mumbai can be by-passed while comming back?

@HVK - How is the route from Udaipur to Nagpur and Nagpur to Hyderabad?

Wanted to explore alternet routes instead of comming by the same one, but if the choice is not there then will follow the route suggested by you.

Problem is that the Udaipur-Dungarpur-Ratlam-Dhar-Indore route has some very bad sections in MP, and is avoidable. You want an alternative route?

Udaipur-Chittorgarh-Kota-Shivpuri, superfast EW Corridor on NH76.
NH3 from Shivpuri onwards via Guna, Biaora - choice to go via Bhopal or Indore.
If via Bhopal, connect to Nagpur via Betul (bad roads now).
If via Indore, connect to Bangalore via Aurangabad, Osmanabad to Hyderabad or via Aurangabad, Beed to Solapur.

Trivia:
NH76 is an amazing road. It is really fun to drive on that road.
A small deviation from NH76 also takes you through the Chambal valley and you can see some of the green spots of Rajasthan!

For that you need to go through Begun/Singoli/Rawat Bhata.
