| i travelled on the chennai-trichy NH-45 somtime in late december. The roads are good till thindivanam and after that its just pathetic. The recent monsoons have washed off the road and its sure to take a heavy toll on your car's suspensions. Also the entire raod till trichy was single lane with bus/trucks showing no respect for others. If you intend to travel on the same route,i would suugest you to go by rail/air |

| BHPian | 4-laning (to GQ specification) is in progress between Tindivanam-Villuparam (and I guess also between VPM-Trichy). The stretch from Tindivanam-Villupuram is good where the road is ready on one side, and very bad/patchy in other places. Of course, there will be bottlenecks, where the road work is in progress, when changing from the already laid stretch to the old road stretch. This can be quite a pain. To be avoided for the next 2-3 months unless absolutely urgent. |

| From Chennai to Tindivanam the roads are four lane and they are very good. Beyond Tindivanam to villupuram the roads are O.K. From villupuram to trichy the roads are under construction and are really pathetic (based on my last year travel). This section will make your journey really painful. From Trichy to Dindugal i expect the roads to be narrow but decent enough. You really need to be very cautious upon travelling this route.

| Tambaram to Trichy Travel time: 6 hrs Total Kms: 280 kms app Average speed: 46 kms/hr a. Four laning work going on b. Heavy lorry traffic ( I traveled in day time) c. Reasonable Roads (In most parts the traffic is diverted to newly paved roads) Trichy to Dindigul to Bathalakundu Travel time: 2.15 hrs Total Kms: 140 kms app Average speed: 65 kms/hr a. Nice two lane roads b. Very minimal traffic Upto Trichy - Had seen minimum of 7 crashed vehicles from M800 to lorries. One need to very cautious as the traffic in most sections is diverted to the newly laid roads where there is no centre marking. Hence one need to slow down allowing the overtaking vehicles to pass through . Govt buses are very rash n overtaking the slow moving lorries Last edited by Surprise : 7th April 2008 at 16:11. |
