@natraj

CBE to Avinashi is also pretty congested. You have to travel atleast 20kms from Avinashi to get onto the 4L.

Huh! I wanted to to do this stretch when we visited Tirumala in June. But my Dad was really skeptical about it and the local taxi drivers also recommended GQ thru Vellore.

Next time around, I'm definitely doing it!

Whenever I drive on NH46 I see this deviation and at least the road at the start looked very good and so does the road entry at Palamaner. Hence I was kind of thinking it may be a good option.

But a good start and a good end does not mean, road may be good all through the place!

@ampere, I was also little bit skeptical until I took this route. But contrary to my doubts the route is good. Though 2 line, it has very low traffic, good road condition and scenic too(some ghat like sections)!!! But I don't think this is good for night driving, bit lonely at some places.

The reason for low traffic is because it is not needed for any truck traffic. The freight runs mostly on NH7/NH4 and NH18 (Chitoor).

Any crossing requirements hardly arise.

c. CBE - Salem - krishnagiri - kuppam -palamner - chittoor - Tirumala
c. CBE - Salem - krishnagiri - Vellore - Chittoor - Tirumala

This would be the route. Would suggest turning to Chittoor at Ranipet instead of Vellore. You might encounter traffic at Vellore-Katpadi (given your start time you might land in Vellore around 8am). Ranipet is easier is drive through.

- Surely 4-lane all the way.
- Since you start at 3:30, you should be able to cover up to Vellore (~400km) in 6 hours of drive time (Average of 70-75). Thats much better compared to driving on 2-lane roads.

What I heard from my colleagues is that after vellore the road is kind of OK only. We might encounter bad roads with potholes or speed breakers often.

Its quite decent. You may find some traffic till Katpadi. And anyway after that it merges with NH4. Its hardly a distance of 30km in total from Vellore to Chittoor. You should be fine in my opinion.
