Bangalore - hosur - Kgiri - Dharmapuri - Thoppur - Mettur - Ammapet - Sathyamangalam - Annur - Mettupalyam

Avoid Coimbatore, you will loose time.

If you start early by 4am it can be easily done in 6-7 hours.

If you start early say 5 am, avoiding the morning rush of buses and lorries then you will probably make it to mettupalayam in 7-9 hours.

Akroy's route is the easiest.

or take right at Hosur and go via Rayakottai - Palacode and rejoin the highway after Dharmapuri. This way you miss most of the work on the highway between Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri and the Kaveripatnam bottleneck.

Since you are driving in the night you'll have to take care in either of the routes.

Bangalore - Mettur - 4 to 4.5 hrs. Take the right from Ammapettai towards Andiyur - Athani - Sathy. Ammapettai is approx 20 kms from Mettur. Mettur - Sathy is 2 hrs. State roads in good condition.

Sathy - Mettupalayam - 1.5 hrs.

Is this route OK?
Mysore road - nanjangund - sathyamangalam - annur -mettupalayam.

Can anybody tell me about nanjangund to chamarajnagar.

How about Maddur - malavalli - sivana samudram - kollegal -chamraj nagar?

Nanjangud to Chamarajnagar is not in a good condition. Similarly, the roads after Kanakapura towards Malavalli and Shivanasamudram are in shambles and are car-breakers in their own right. The route suggested by akroy is the fastest and the safest right now.

Yes please follow akroy's route. You are taking your Civic isn't it. That's the best route.

Take right at Thoppur towards Mettur. Take right at Ammapettai (20kms from Mettur). Ask folks in Sathy for directions to Mettupalayam road if you can't find it.

4 laning between Krishnagiri - Thoppur. 90% done. Still watch out till Thoppur. Ammapettai to Sathy goes through several villages. Roads have been good so far. However buses have started using this route as well.

Should take approx 6 hrs if you leave early and don't have too many breaks.

Default Suggestions for bike trip

Hi,

As a part of my bike (bullet) ride to Ooty and surrounding places, I plan to take the following route on the return:
Ooty-Mettupalayam-Bannari-Dhimbam-Charmarajanagara-Bangalore.

I need help on the following:
1. Which is the most scenic route from Ooty to Mettupalayam - Is it the one via Coonoor or the one via Kotagiri? How are the road conditions on both of these options?

2. How are the road conditions b/w Mettupalayam-Bannari, the Dhimbam ghats all the way upto Chamarajanagara?

Thanks,

Prasad

Answering query one only...

The Ooty Coonoor Metty route is sheer drama. Steep hillsides, sharp drops, mist and sun alternating, deep valleys etc.
Kotagiri to Metty is nice in its own way but I prefer the traditional route.

Kothagiri is an interior road compared to the main NH. Not sure of the view, but you sure may have lesser traffic.

Make sure you dont continue on the SH. Else you end up in Sathyamangalam. One way to solve that issue, look for Bhavani sagar dam exit and there on you would be on the right track to Bannari. Beyond Bannari its NH209 and its good. Mettupalayam to Bannari is a decent narrow SH.
