Hello Everyone, We are planning to go sometime in Novemeber from Mumbai to Saputara, Gujarat. Preliminary searching lead me to Mumbai - Nasik -> 180 Kms Nasik - Saputara -> 80 kms. Total 260 Kms. I know that I've to take the NH3 and go, what I am looking for is information on 1. What is the condition of the roads . 2. There should be ghats on the way, how are they, how long . I think they are kasara and igatpuri . Not sure, but something like this. Are they easy to drive on or too many bends/ sharp bends. 3. Are the roads narrow or wide and well laid. 4. Any other preferable route or tips that you can give me. 5. Road from Nasik to saputara if anyone has travelled. I hope someone who has travelled on this route can guide me well . Thanks a lot.

It is a horrible road. Apart from the ghats in Igatpuri, you also have ghats in the Nashik-Saputara road. Roads are conventional 2-lane roads. The other route to come to Saputara is to go on Nh8 till Vapi and take a district road to Saputara. Nashik to Saputara is 86 kms via Dindori (30 kms), Vani (15) and Borgaon (31). From Saputara, the route via Vapi is as follows: Saputara-Waghai 54-Vansada 17-Dharamapur 35-Vapi 43. If you go via Nashik, total distance is 180 + 86, or 266 kms If you go via Vapi, total distance is 180 + 149, or 329 kms Road via Vapi may be faster despite the longer distance in view of the 4-lane road till Vapi. You have to turn right off NH8 at Vapi town.

Yes, you have only the Kasara/Igatpuri ghats on the way from Bombay to Nashik. These ghats are approximately 25-30 kms, starting with the foothills before Kasara. From Mumbai, you pass via Thane, Vashind, Shahpur, Kasara, Igatpuri and Ghoti on the way to Nashik. I don't recollect the exact ghat road distance in Nashik-Saputara, but that si also approximately the same 20-30- kms. No problem with any car. No great opinion about Saputara, been there once, was so disappointed that I spend just 1 hour and carried on - had originally thought of staying overnight.

I've been to Saputara and did not find anything great to see there. It's an extremely small hillstation (similar to Matheran but not as nice) with a few points (sunset point, sunrise point). People from South Gujarat though throng this place as the border is close to this hillstation and they can cross over while they are at Saputara to enjoy some drinks! So for most of the South Gujarat people, its a place to eat, drink and be merry! IMHO - not worth traveling 200 odd kms unless you do it only for enjoying the traveling part ![]() Last edited by kalpeshc : 17th October 2008 at 12:27. Reason: Spelling mistakes

Stop at Manas Resort, Igatpuri. As per my Uncle, it' great. Instead of Saputara, I would like to recommend Bhandardara.

I would prefer the route via GJ since the roads will be better and you have the advantage of the 4 lane roads till Vapi/Valsad.

| BHPian | I did this route a few days back on a club ride: outbound via Thane-Ghodbunder to Udvada where we had our night halt. Next day via Surat to Saputara with a brief 3 hour halt at Bansada on the way. On the retun we took the road to Nashik and from there NH50 to Pune. Roads throughout were excellent. |

From Shirdi, you can go via either Nashik or take a slightly shorter route via Kopargaon, Yeola, Niphad and Pimpalgaon. In both cases, you go via Vani. In Nashik city, you can ask around, you can find the Vani road easily.

Hello Team, This is my first drive by to Nasik at the Infant Jesus Shrine on Nasik Road. Its been 3 years since I had last been there but travelled in a ST Bus. Planning to leave on 6th November from Borivli to Thane via Ghodbunder Road and then NH3 to Nasik to catch up with the Church service at 12.00 noon and then return back after lunch the same day. I checked the maps on google and it seems like there is a flyover coming up at the Dwarka Junction. There's also a shortcut just before the Dwarka Intersection that opens up before the Nasik Airport on the Nasik Road. Need some confirmation. Are there any specific things to lookout for? Also need information on decent family joints for Breakfast on NH3 towards Nasik and for lunch within Nasik City. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.
