Accomodation should be available in Khajjiar as most of tourists go there to spend the day having picnic in meadows rather than spending night at Khajjiar.

But make sure that your hotel in Khajjiar serves the food you like as there are no eateries around.

Complete foodies can go to Mcleodganj which will be less clogged by HR and PB cars during new year and paradise for trying various cuisines.

Hey mobike, I was just kidding. Hope you didn't take it that seriously! What I meant was we are not so picky about our accomodation.

According to weather report snow is not likely in the next one week. So unless the weather changes drastically it may not be so cold when we reach there. So when are you planning to reach Shimla?

I was extrapolating tsk1979's post earlier and weather reports on television.

However I do follow the local weather here -

HimTimes

and

Indian Meteorological Department

I also follow the Himachal Pradesh forum on indiamike (India Travel Forum | IndiaMike.com) for any local updates.

Glad that you were kidding

I am planning to leave on Dec 25th for Shimla. And, been a bit busy at work so have not been following up with family@delhi regarding the accomodation and general plan on how we will go to HP etc.

In any case, i am not much of a planner, i love taking things as they come

@Guys in Hyderabad, do you know any good shop for camping equipments like tents and sleeping bags?
An acquaintance of mine bought some camping stuff online from :: Wowoutdoors :: as he did not find any shop in Hyd that sells camping equipment. He was quite happy with what he got. You can compare with eBay and then decide what to buy.

I check weather reports on IMD website. They are reasonably accurate. For example if you want to know whether it will rain in chd, their prediction will fall flat, but if you want to know whether a western disturbance will hit the region, its good.

@tsk1979: You still plan to go in to hills with wheel lock up / rear sway issues? Get that sorted out with a car behaving that way on straights the constantly varying dynamics of hill driving will mean constantly being on alert. Not that it can not be done.

There is no wheel lockup now, and no saw either.
Only if I hit the brakes hard at speed(no locking, just hard braking), I feel pull towards right.
So if I hit brakes and leave steering wheel, then its an issue, otherwise its okay. Anyways, another visit to *** is planned. Its 2 weeks atleast till my travel!

Looks like snowfall will be delayed this time. Weather is still dry and warm in HP. Infact light vehicles are still plying on the Manali-Rohtang-Keylong.

Guys who are travelling by car should have a good time.

Looks like we'll be able to face the first snow at the end of the year.

There was some snow on the Rohtang Pass yesterday.

The Tribune, Chandigarh, India - Himachal Pradesh Edition

IMD site predicts probable light snow around Shimla in the next couple of days.

Default Western disturbance currently active

Hopefully, the weather system will move from NWFP to India, this will mean even more snow around 20th-21st

Oh, I just love this bit of information TSK and watashi75.
This means I'll take more time to reach Manali as it'll slow down our speed. Good for me.
