My suggestion:

1. On day 1 start early from Delhi and drive on to Sarahan on NH 22 via Simla, Narkanda and Rampur Bushehr (taking the diversion off the highway to Sarahan).

2. On Day 2 start Sarahan late morning after sinking i the views and the Bhimkali temple and camp at Sangla (again off the NH on the other side of the highway). See if Chitkul is doable (awesome place at some 3000 m with A combination of Forests, grasslands, sheer rock in the baspa river valley).

3. On day 3 start Sangla and camp at Kalpa taking the road off NH 22 via Recong Peo (Recong Peo is lower and has shops but Kalpa being higher has better views).

4. Day 4 start back towards Narkanda. Stay over at Thanedar (abt 30 km off Narkanda in the middle of apple country).

5. Day 5 start from Thanedar for Delhi (should be under 10 hours drive via Narkanda and Shimla)

When it snows its actually warmer, this dry cold wave is the one which leads to really chilly temperatures.

Apart from that Sangla/Chitkul and Kalpa will be barren. One snowfall and Kalpa road will be blocked, however the mail highway is low altitude till rain shadow region, so you will have roads till Kaza, barring a landslide
Vaise I don't mind the cold
Now that you have bought the topic up, thought I'll share my pics from my Ladakh trip from last Dec. where -10 often would be the daytime max during this period

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...-december.html (Ladakh in December)

Anyway, my trip is finalized, I'll be leaving Delhi on the 26th and need to be back thre by the 5th
With the target set as Kaza, Will go uptil where the road takes me.. while avoiding any undue risks

How are you planning your trip this time?
Are you going to hire a self driven MUV from Delhi again?

I will try to make it same time next year
