1 1/2 yrs before we had made a trip from trivandrum to Wagah. This was the route we followed. Trivandrum-Mangalore-Ankola-Hubli-Pune-Mumbai-Baroda-Ahmedabad-Udaipur-Jaipur-Agra-Delhi-Ambala-Amritsar-Wagah. From Jaipur you can continue on GQ to Delhi without moving to Agra. Please do check on present road conditions. HV Kumar from this forum has been a great help to us during the trip and do check with him before finalizing on the route and schedule. Drive safe.

Day 1 may be tough, considering the heavy North Kerala traffic in daytime, and the poor condition of roads on some parts of NH17. But doable.

Day 2, I presume you are going to Mahabaleswar via Hubli. Doable

Day 4 is OK. You can short-cut without touching Pune also by cutting via Saswad and Ahmednagar, to avoid Pune city traffic.

Day 5 is OK

Day 6 is tough unless you are a very fast driver - also calls for a 15 + hour driving day

Kumar, thanks for your inputs.
Regarding day 1, I did Cochin-Mangalore last year in 12 hrs time(leisurely driving). So my plan on day 1 was based on that. As you said I am not aware of the road condition, but I presume it should have atleast patched up. Now a days I can see patching work in full swing in most of the roads. So I presume there also they might have done smething.

Can you please provide me the route direction from Mahabaleswar to Shirdi without touching Pune? I actually wanted to avoid Pune.

To avoid Pune city, you can take the following route:

From Mahabaleswar, return to NH4 near Wai.
Go on NH4 towards Pune.
After the Khambatki Ghat Tunnel, you reach the town of Shirwal.
Turn off Nh4 right at Shirwal towards Morgaon (famous Ganpati temple, a must see)
From Morgaon, reach Nh9 via Supa, near Patas.
Bisect Nh9 at Patas and take the Shirur road, which will take you to the Pune-Ahmednagar Road.
Turn right at Shirur and proceed to Ahmednagar.
Just before Ahmednagar city, turn left towards Shirdi.

Road conditions are good. A friend went on the Shirwal-Morgaon-Shirur roads recently. But I think you may be slowed down by the road widening work in the Ahmednagar-Shirdi-Kopargaon section.
