Default Pune-Coorg-Kundapur-Kurumgad-Pune

Hi,

I am planning a 9 days road trip with my wife for the above route. I am not sure if my plan is feasible. Can you please review and advise?

Criteria - No temples, monuments, sight seeing etc. Just laze & stroll around.

Planned Route -

I have planned my road trip using Google Maps. Check out my planned route here - Google Maps
103034139030702460886.0004734701aad54732746

Tentative Plan -

Day 1 - Start from Pune early at 4am and reach Coorg by nightfall around 7pm.
Day 2 & 3 - Spend in and around Coorg
Day 4 - Start from Coorg after breakfast (around 10 am) and start for Kundapura via Kaup & Malpe Beach. Have lunch in between. Visit Kaup & Malpe Beach and then reach Kundapura by 7pm.
Day 5 - Spend the rest of the day in/around Kundapura. Also visit Agumbe during the day
Day 6 - Start from Kundapura for Karwar around 10 am. Reach Karwar at 2pm. Have lunch in Karwar and roam around. Then catch the evening ferry to Kurumgadh.
Day 7 & 8 - Stay at Kurumgadh
Day 9 - Start back for Pune at 10 am and reach Pune at 7pm.

Accomodation - I am planning to stay at the Turtle Bay Beach Resort at Kundapur and at The Great Outdoors at Kurumgadh. Any suggestions for a good place to stay + things to do at Coorg?

Cheers,

Vishal

I am unable to open the link outlining your route in google maps. The home page of google maps opens instead.

Hi Vishal,

There are a few places to visit in Coorg. However, since you have mentioned that your primary idea is to just laze around, maybe you can visit lesser known places of scenic beauty in Coorg to just soak in the weather. Give me a call or PM me and I shall guide you further.

Regards,
Zahed

I suggest day 4 end, stay at Udupi instead of proceeding to kundapur, as next day morning u can go to agumbe directly from udupi (via manipal)

Question Pune - Coorg Trip - Route Advice

Hi all,

I am planning a trip to Coorg and this is the route I am eyeing

1) Pune - Kolhapur - Amboli Ghat - Goa
2) Night stay at Goa
3) Next Morning 6 AM - Goa - Karwar - Honavar- Jog Falls
4) After visiting Jog Falls, which is a better choice?

a) Jog Falls - Sagara - Bhadravati - Chikamaglur - Somwarpet - Madikeri. OR
b) Jog Falls - Bhatkal - Udupi - Bypass for Mangalore - Puttur - Madikeri

(by 7 PM).

Is this a good route to take from Pune to Madikeri?

I then plan to visit Nagarhole (Kabini River Lodge) from Madikeri through Kushalnagar - Hunsur - Heggadadevankote - Kabini.

However, while returning to Pune, I am looking for a city to stay over. Belgaum is around 11-11.5 hrs from Kabini and if I start at around 12 PM, it will be late to reach Belgaum. Is Hubli a good option to stay for the night?

I plan to leave the next day for Pune.

Please provide me some expert advice?

Your route 2 is the preferred option.Jog-Shimoga-Kadur-Chikmagalur-Belur-Hassan-KR Nagar-Hunsur-Madikeri

For your return if you leave Madikeri after breakfast, you can conveniently reach Hubli for the night around 7pm.Clarke,Naveen all are good hotels at Hubli(Retrace your path till Shimoga and then take the road towards Haveri on NH4).If you reach earlier, you can push on till Belgaum and stay at Sankam Resideny.

Do you have any reason for Goa?
Because if not, I would suggest to drive via : Kolhapur-Hubli-Yellapur-Sirsi-Sagar. Roads are very good too.

I would prefer:

Sagar-Shimoga-Tarekere-CKM-Belur-Hassan-Holenarasipur-Hunsur-Madikeri.
Now this is at least 50km more in distance compared to Hassan-GorurArkalgud-Madikeri option. But the roads are brilliant all the way.
If you leave Jog early, you should be able to cover fast as mostly traffic is sparse till Hunsur.

Hubli also a very good option to stay. But you need to get into the town. None are available on the bypass. (Hans, Clarks Inn etc are some of them).

I did not want to drive in one go and wanted to stay over somewhere for a night. I couldn't decide on a suitable city around 8-9 hrs from Pune on the
Kolhapur-Hubli-Yellapur-Sirsi-Sagar route, so I chose Goa.

Thanks for the route. I see 3 options now

1) After Belur - Shanivarsante - Somwarpet - Madikeri - 600 Km from Goa. Google says 12 hrs
2) After Belur - Hassan - Gorur - Arkalagud - Kushalnagar - Madikeri - 631 km from Goa. Google says 12.5 hrs
3) After Belur - Hassan - Holenarasipur - Hunsur - Madikeri - 700 km from Goa. Google says 13.5 hrs.

I don't think Google timings can be fully trusted. How long would it actually take for these options and would you still suggest option 3?

Also, what is the realistic time to reach Jog Falls from Panjim?

Thanks
Nilesh

You can choose Yellapur for a break.

Here is one place :

http://www.bananacountyresort.com

The only reason I am suggesting that is because, its far nicer roads to drive.

If you have booked in north Goa, then I would add
- 1 hour in the morning to come to south Goa (Madgaon)
- 1.5 to 2 Hours to Ankola (good roads) (100 km)
- 1/1.5 hour to Honnavar (good to decent roads) (55-60km)
- 1.5-2 hours to Jog (Ghat section plus rough patches here and there) (70km)
