Smile Advice required to travel from Pune to Bhopal

Hi All,

I am planning to drive on my new Alto Flash (2 Months old) in Diwali vacations from Pune to Bhopal..

I am planning via route

Pune-Ahmadnagar-Aurangabad-Bhusawal-Burhanpur-Khandawa-Harda-Hoshangabad

Please advice whether this is a good route or not. I must pass through Hoshangabad.

Also i am planning to leave early in Morning (abt 3.am) and reaching Bhopal at abt 7.00 PM...i am the only driver....is this looks feasible considering road conditions and effort...

I already read the post abt day and night driving as well as things to carry during long drives...

Please advice

Yep this route is good, you might face some traffic in khandwa.

My Trip log (903 kms in 15.5 hours, Lets Go !!!)

Start around 4 am to reach comfortably in time.

Guru, not sure if you get to read this before your travel tomorrow. Still, here goes.

I just made this trip recently on the Indore to Pune route via Edalabad & Aurangabad. Here is my view on the road conditions:

Pune to Ahmednagar:
The road till Shirur is excellent (4 laned). You should have no problem at all since yu are leaving early. From Shirur till Ahmednagar, the road is full of diversions as it is being made now. This will prove to be a little of an issue as it will be dark while you hit this section. Again crossing Ahmednagar town will be fine, as you will reach very early morning

Ahmednagar to Aurangabad:
Excellent road. 4 lanes all throughout. A few good places to have breakfast also on this road. However I believe as you will reach Aurangabad during the morning, you might have to face a few traffic bottlenecks.

Aurangabad to Pahur:
Two laned road, but in an decent condition. Unless you get stuck behind a line of trucks this road should be okay.

Pahur to Edalabad:
Now, I took the road from Pahur to Edalabad via Jamner and Bodvad (63 kms). This road is much shorter than the Pahur - Jalgaon - Bhusaval - Edalabad (97 kms). However I found this road in a bad state for a good portion of the way. It is being repaired and there are no diversions. So you end up driving on a stony patch. I guess your decision to go via Bhusawal sounds better. At least we know that the Jalgaon - Edalabad section is good.

Edalabad to Burhanpur:
This road is again two laned and I would say Average. Nothing to be proud about. The road has a fair amount of pot holes and therefore slows you down a bit. Buhanpur had a few good restaurants to eat.

Burhanpur to Indore:
Two laned road, but in excellent condition. I found absolutely no traffic on this section. The road condition is too good. But the down side is that this is really lonely. No major towns, and no major eateries on the way. Therefore make sure that you stock up food at Burhanpur.
You cross the Narmada about 3 kms before Barwah. There is a great eating joint just before the bridge on your left. You will get really good snacks there. Also, from here you can walk down to the ghat on Narmada. It is a nice break, if you need one.
From here on again the road till Indore is very good.

Hope this helps. Let us know your experience once you are back.

1) Shirdi - your travel would be split in 210 + 410 kms
2) Aurangabad - your travel would be split in 240 + 425 kms
3) Jalgaon - your travel would be split in 400 + 265 kms

Apologies - distances mentioned are for Indore. For driving to Bhopal, it might be better to take break at Jalgaon.
