How is the road now to Talakadu and Somnathpur? I still have horror memories from my last trip there with the roads.

Actually we didn't drive that route. We went to Talakadu on the way back from Shivan samudra to maddur. I think the stretch you mentioned is not good yet.
We are planning for Somnathpura so when we make it i'll update the status

We are planning to do this in the near future.

The Plan:
Plan to camp at Srirangapatna close to late thursday night.
Visit the temple at Srirangapatna (Aadhiranga) on Friday early morning.
Head to Sivanasamudram (Madyaranga) which is about 1.5hrs drive max.
After the darshan, head towards Srirangam (Anthyaranga) which is a solid 7hrs drive and plan to reach the temple by evening to have the darshan and complete all 3 in a single day.

Hope this helps one and all.

Here is the route map that shows how to cover all three in a day

I have been to all three, but not in a single day. That looks a good plan.
Recently visited the madhya ranga temple when I went to shivanasamudra.
Here are a couple of pics along with some pics of the waterfalls.

We plan to visit Hogenekkal falls next week. It would be a day trip. Are there any other places around that can be combined in the trip?

You can probably include MM Hills, but then the roads are not that great.

@Gandhi,

Try the route via Anchetty to Hogenakkal. Though a section of that route is back-breaking to say the least, but you will love the views. The route is:

Bangalore-Hosur-Denkanikottai-Anchetty-Hogenakkal.

Since it deviates from Hosur it self, no food/break options. Need to carry your
own. In towns you will find shops who may sell packed items (biscuits, cakes etc).

Whay say Addy!

Kaiwara off Bangalore - Chintamani road. Haven't been there recently : but was a nice place when I was there a few years back.

Kaivara

Lots of temples, some very nice views from the hills and some boulder climbing if you're that type. Weekends maybe crowded though.

Also, for the Believers, there are a couple of nice temples off Bangalore - Mysore road before Channapatna : Narasimha swamy temple and Aprameya and krishna temple ( Chikka Maloor and Dodda Maloor ) ( 12.655748,77.180657 ) . Very old temples.

Also the Hoysala style temples at Nuggehalli on the CR Patna -> Tiptur road.

Nobody seems to have mentioned Muthathi?

Well, it's a great little one-day getaway. About 90 km from Bangalore, it's situated at the banks of the river Cauvery. Muthathi is known to be this sacred place where Sita Devi, wife of Lord Rama had lost her nose-stud which was later recovered by Anjaneya.

Muthathi is a very scenic place. It's a great place for photographers and those who'd like to get away from the bustling city-life for a day and soak in nature and relax. It should take about two hours or so to get there. Don't forget to take along your camera and a friend who plays the guitar!

However, there have been instances where people have drowned in the river. So don't get into the water, especially when there is no one else around.

You should visit the pristine lake near Palakkodu named Kesarakuli Halla Dam. Looks lovely and unexplored. I had read about this in bangalore Mirror. here is the link.
