All along the highway? No chance. Street lights available only when passing thru the towns, that too if they have power at that time. I once started from Tirupathi at 4PM or so and during twilight saw an Esteem going for a spin after hitting a rock/small-boulder that some useless truck driver had failed to remove after his repair. After this incident I have almost stopped driving after dark, unless its a road very well known to me.

Thanks,

Naidupet to chittor is 135 KM

It very easy to cover the distance between chilakaluripet to naidupet in 4 hours (269 km)

Naidupet to tirupati takes one hour

Tirupati to chittor 1 hour

Chittor - palamaner 40 km 45 min

Palamaner - mulbagal 35-40 km 45 min

Mulbagal - kolar 30 km 30-40 min

Kolar - bangalore 60-70 km depending upon the area you reside may take 70-90 min ( depends upon the time of entry in to banaglore )

There is one reliance A1 plaza at bangarupalem between chittor and palamaner ( i think it called nandi food plaza or some thing like that now)

Again there is AP tourism Pavitra restaraunt at palamaner towards bangalore side

Both of them are ok.

I was convinced to drive on Tirupati - Kolar segment. But, no light on Tirupati - Kolar - Bangalore segment. BHPians advising me not to drive on this route during night and my need to be in Bangalore by Sunday midnight. I have very little night driving experience (only 2 night trips). All these have made me drift to Chennai route again.

I saw this: Chennai Bypass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This appears to be newly done.

Has anyone driven on this Chennai bypass?

My plan is Bangalore to Chennai in 6 hours and Chennai to Chilakaluripet in 6 hours.

Thanks everyone for your inputs. I took the Chennai route. Chennai was a little crowded, but not much. It took me about 30-40 mins to get in and out of Chennai.

The best part was return journey. The section from Chilakaluripet to Nellore of 200 kms was covered in 2 hours flat! (But those were empty and straight roads.) Most of the time the speedometer was around 120-130 kmph.

Top speed: 138 kmph
Car: Indica V2 DLS
Fuel Economy: 19.5 Kmpl
Fuel: IOC Diesel Ordinary

Hi,

Does Chennai Ring Road pass through Chennai City, or, is it a by-pass? Please guide me on the directions from Chennai by-pass to NH5 (esp if I need to pass through Chennai city). Please enlighten!! Thank you.

It does pass through the city and takes about 30-40 mins to get in and out of the city. I am not very sure of the directions. The way I did was I ensured that I have trucks on both sides of the road (sign of a highway) and kept eyes on direction boards and ask every 10 mins. Not a good way... but it worked for me. It was similar to ORR in Bangalore.
