Hi all ,
i have recently moved to ahmedabad and planning to do a two day trip to abu ,ambaji and shamalaji. This will be a weekend trip with family . Require advice on how should the route be planned.
Also suggest about the other places of interests which can be done on a weekend trip.

Here's my suggestion.

Abu is about 230 kms from Ahmedabad. About 160kms from Ahd to the Gujarat border (very very good roads). Then 40 kms into Rajasthan upto Mount Abu - this was a horrible stretch, lots of construction going on - when I went in early 2008. The last 30 kms is from Abu Road to Mt Abu. Wide, sweeping incline.

Do an evening trip to Abu. Stay overnight, then travel to Ambaji. Total 50 kms (30 kms downhill to Abu Road, then 20 odd kms). You'll have plenty of time to explore Abu the same evening. Travel back to Ahd on the 3rd day.

For Shamalaji, I think there's a detour to the temple well before you reach Himmatnagar. If you leave Abu early morning, you'll have plenty of time to visit the temple and come back to Ahd by evening

Thanks predatorwheelz . Any idea about the ambaji - shamlgji road conditions .

Hope it helps.

Gujarat roads are mostly fantastic except for Nh8 (esp traffic) and recurrent expansions in Baroda-Surat :p
