Default Bangalore - Ladakh - July /Aug

Dear All,

With the incredible energy created in Team BHP and reading and re-reading the various Ladakh travelouges, and with an aborted plan 2 years ago, i am now seriously contemplating a trip in the last week of july through 15th of August 2010.

I plan to drive from Bangalore in my Fiat Adventure, with my wife and i am looking at anyone else who is inclined to do this trip around the same time.

I have spoken to HVK and read his posts as well, suggesting September to be the best time, but i would keep September as the last option, since my work peaks in September.

I plan to do via Delhi - Srinigar -Ladakh - Manali - and back to Bangalore. I am yet to plan the day wise routing, but would do that over the weekends and post it on this thread.

In the meanwhile, i know a lot of BHP'ians from Bangalore are planning this trip and i would be happy to move around the dates a bit to join a bigger group.

We could possibly use this thread to group those interested from Bangalore to do the Ladakh trip in 2010.

Cheers
Vinay Sambaragimath

Hi Vinay

Last year my brother did Delhi-Manali-Leh-Srinagar-Delhi trip and as per the information given by him, the road between Rohtan Pass and Ladakh is very bad and you have pass several high altitude passes where oxygen is very less.

Further, there are two or three stretches which you have to complete and you can not stop for night on those stretches as there is notihng to stay or eat.

Now that you are already going there, Y dont u do Spiti, Lahaul and kinnaur as well. Guess you will have to extend your trip by 2-4 days.
Check out HVK's travelogue for more details
I am also planning for this trip. I am going to follow the path that HVK and gang had taken. Only that I will be starting from Bangalore. Plans all in place, date not confirmed yet. I am not sure whether I can do this in my Getz.

I started a new thread as below.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...-my-dream.html (Bengaluru-KhardungLa. My dream)
Somehow i missed this thread during my search. either my search keyword was not right or I must have been sleeping
If 2-3 cars start from Bengaluru, It'll be good and helpful to all IMO.

My earlier thread was deleted, Luckily i had sent it to one of my friends, Or else I would have ended up typing the whole thing all over again.
Hope this time i have put it on the right thread.

Planning my Dream Trip… I know it’s not easy.
But nothing is easy and nothing is impossible either ain’t it?
When I’m a member of TeamBHP, things are much easier.

I’m planning to take my Italian Babe on the highest motorable road in the World.
People have called me an Idiot, but I have 3 more Idiots willing to give me company

Now coming to the point…
It all started to take pace on 28th January thought the urge to do this was since years.
After the initial run-in and me getting acquainted to my Punto 1.2 E, It struck to me that if I do it, I should do it with her.
I asked my three friends if they would be ready, and immediately I got an YES.

Since we all were busy, the formal meet up happened yesterday.
After a fairly long discussion over a “Cuppa” we have made a tentative plan as below.
Now where else can I get better Info than TBHP? So here is our tentative plan.

Day 1
Bengaluru-Surat approx. 1300kms. sleep in Surat

Day 2
Surat-Chandigarh approx. 1300kms. sleep in Chandigarh

Day3
Chandigarh-Keylong approx. 400kms. sleep in Keylong.

Day4
Keylong-Leh approx. 350kms. sleep in Leh

Day5
Leh-Khardungla-Leh approx. 100kms. Sleep in Leh

Day 6
Leh Manali approx 475kms. Sleep in Manali

Day7
Manali Stay

Day8
Manali-Agra, approx.800kms. Taj Mahal visit. Sleep in Agra.

Day9
Agra-Mumbai approx. 1000kms. Sleep in Surat

Day10
Surat-Bangalore approx. 1300kms.

Is this feasible?
In my plan above, if the Chandigarh-Khardungla-Agra takes a day or two more, we can accommodate (more leaves to be applied). If it takes time, where might it take more time?
We skip Manali stay (Day7) to accommodate the delay if any, since we all have seen Manali before.

Is there a better route?
We are not sure about NH7 and NH26 quality and hence we decided upon the Golden Quadrilateral.

Is it possible on Punto 1.2E?
With less than 4 metre length and 173mm ground clearance, I don’t see any obstacle but occasional hits to the underbody are inevitable.

Is it the right time?
We are planning somewhere in the end of August. If that is not good we can even plan this for June-July.

Road Condition.
After the last year’s flash floods, how is the road at present?

What are all the things to take?
I have understood that I might have to mix anti-freeze liquids for the engine oil and coolant.
Tents – How important is it?
Petrol Can- My vehicle can do 450 kms at the worst per tank of fuel
Two spare wheels-Will this be useful?
Permits-Is there any permits which can be taken before starting?

Lodging?
Are lodging facilities available in the places mentioned?
Any other options?

With all the expert advice from TBHP I hope to realize this dream of mine.

MODS: I didn’t find any existing threads for Bangalore-Leh/Khardungla. Please merge with the appropriate thread if any.
